Principal Data & AI Solutions Engineer – Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) based at Edwards AFB, CA or Nellis AFB, NV. Supports the Joint Simulation Environment with a focus on data engineering, advanced data visualization, and AI-driven decision support for system performance assessment, anomaly resolution, and warfighting capability evaluation. The role involves defining data strategy, introducing cutting-edge data tools and automation, and leading data exploitation in a high-stakes defense environment. Responsibilities AI/ML Application & Innovation: Identify, prototype, and implement AI/ML solutions to enhance JSE test data analysis and operational effectiveness. Include automated event identification, real-time anomaly detection, predictive modeling of performance envelopes, and intelligent data querying for complex scenarios. Leverage AI/ML to track MOE/MOP, provide automated insights, and support test planning and resource allocation.

Advanced Dashboarding & Visualization: Design and implement dashboards and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, custom web apps) to translate JSE data into actionable insights for leadership and users. Automate data pipelines and reporting to deliver timely performance metrics and trends.

Experimentation & Rapid Prototyping: Execute rapid prototyping and proof-of-concept demonstrations for new data visualization, automation, and AI/ML capabilities; drive iterative development and stakeholder feedback.

Technical Advocacy & Tool Adoption: Champion adoption of new data tools and AI/ML technologies within the JSE; assess trends and present business cases for benefits in data efficiency and mission effectiveness.

Customer & Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with JSE leadership and senior customers to understand data needs and translate them into solutions.

Data Quality & Governance: Support data quality, integrity, and security practices; implement validation and classification processes and contribute to governance frameworks.

Team Leadership & Development: Lead and build technical teams within the JSE; recruit, mentor, and establish clear objectives and metrics.

Qualifications & Education Minimum 8+ years in data engineering, data science, business intelligence, or related field with large-scale data experience.

Experience designing and deploying interactive dashboards using Power BI, Tableau, QlikView, or similar.

Data modeling, ETL/ELT, and database management (SQL, NoSQL, data lakes).

Strong programming in Python or R with data manipulation libraries (e.g., Pandas) and statistical analysis.

Experience applying AI/ML techniques (supervised/unsupervised learning, NLP) for data analysis, pattern recognition, or predictive analytics.

Experience with time-series, spectral, and spatial data typical of aerospace test environments.

Ability to work in ambiguous environments, articulate value propositions to technical and non-technical stakeholders, and communicate insights clearly to senior leadership.

Experience in defense or military aviation and understanding of test & evaluation processes.

Experience with data integration across disparate and classified networks/systems.

Experience designing data solutions for real-time monitoring and decision support in high-stakes settings.

Strong leadership, influencing skills, and business acumen in defense acquisition contexts.

Desired Qualifications Time-series analysis, anomaly detection, deep learning for sensor data, and reinforcement learning for simulation optimization.

Distributed computing (e.g., Spark, Hadoop); metadata management and data governance experience.

Knowledge of simulation data formats and standards for military aircraft testing.

Exposure to control room operations or test execution environments.

Understanding of aeronautical sciences, aircraft mission systems, or flight test data.

Experience with on-premise, cloud, and hybrid data infrastructures (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud) and their data management implications.

Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, or related quantitative field; or equivalent career experience. Master’s degree preferred.

Clearance Active TOP SECRET clearance with SCI eligibility; ability to obtain/maintain SAP access as required.

Travel Occasional travel to support customer engagements, conferences, or technology scouting.
