Position Type: Locum Physician Cardiovascular Surgery
Hospital-based opportunity for a Board-Certified Cardiovascular/Thoracic Surgeon to provide locum coverage at a Level I trauma center. The role includes high-acuity cardiac and thoracic surgical cases, inpatient care, and on-call responsibilities with strong mid-level support.
Setting: Hospital-based, 100% Adult
Patient Load: hospital-based patients/day
Average Daily Volume: 1 2 admissions 8 10 ICU patients 1 2 surgeries
Facility Size: 400 beds 12 ICU beds
Trauma Level: I
Team: 2 physicians + 5 mid-level providers
EMR: Epic
Coverage: Required to supervise and provide clinical oversight during call
Reason for Coverage: Staffing changes, backfill need
Credentialing: 90 days
No other thoracic surgeons present during locum coverage
General CV/Thoracic Surgery open
Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery on-pump & off-pump
Congenital Defect Repairs (ASD, VSD, PFO)
Valvular Repair & Replacement
Aneurysm Repair Cardiac & Aorto-thoracic
ECMO Cannulation & stabilization for transfer
TAVRs, Lead Extraction, Mitraclips
Aortic Surgery (emphasis strongly preferred)
Preferred Skills:
Acute volume/BP management
Central line, arterial line, PA catheter, IABP insertions
Board Certified Required
Active Colorado License or Active IMLC Required
Strong cardiac surgical experience (must be able to perform heart surgery) Required
Dissections with recent case logs Required (Excel format at name clear)
Strong surgical case volume Required
ACLS & BLS (AHA only) Required (or willing to obtain AHA)
COVID Vaccination Required
Clean background / No malpractice Required
24-hour call coverage
Mix of admissions, ICU care, and surgeries
Must be available for surgical procedures and oversight
