Five or more years of clinical nursing experience, three of which include in maternity/OB MA license required BLS & NRP required BLS & NRP instructor required Job Summary The Nurse Educator serves as a role model, consultant, change agent and facilitator in assessing learning needs and in planning and implementing, and evaluating educational activities for the Emerson Hospital Obstetrical Nursing areas. Utilizing instructional techniques and adult & pediatric learning principles, this position develops and implements job aids, performance criteria, clinical competencies and interactive practical experiences to support staff development based on identified educational needs. Job Functions 1.Collaborates with the Director of Obstetrical Nursing and staff to assess learning needs. 2. Plans and implements educational activities to meet identified needs, utilizing adult and pediatric learning principles. 3.Plans and implements annual educational and competency review plans for the department. 4.Develops and utilizes appropriate evaluation mechanisms to determine effectiveness of learning and next steps to be taken in the educational process. 5. Promotes collaborative relationships among health care professionals both internally and externally. 6.Participates in activities that promote professional development through education and other activities that enhance the practice of nursing at Emerson Hospital. 7.Participates and coordinates patient/family and community education as assigned. 8.Develops orientation programs for all new staff and coordinates orientation based on individual needs 9.Active participant in several hospital committees as assigned including resuscitation, nurse practice council, trauma committee, stroke committee and nursing council. 10.Develops special projects in collaboration with the Director of Obstetrical Nursing based on current needs. 11.Department Coordinator for unit specific courses. 12.Demonstrate clinical expertise in Obstetrical Nursing. 13.Serves as a clinical resource, role model, and internal consultant. 14.Participates in performance improvement activities for the department and patient care services. 15.Utilizes evidence-based practice in policy and procedure development and instructional activities. 16.
