Tax Senior Manager, Private Client Services

The PCS practice serves high net-worth individuals and families, family offices, C-Suite executives, athletes, entertainers, and others with complex tax and financial structures. The practice provides estate, income, gift, and trust tax consulting and compliance, charitable giving and philanthropic foundations, executive compensation, and cash-flow, retirement, and life insurance planning.
Job Summary A Tax Senior Manager, Private Client Services (PCS) is responsible for utilizing their educational background and professional experience, including communication, time management, leadership, technical, business development, and people skills to provide tax compliance and consulting services to high net-worth clients.
Job Duties
Manages tax and consulting engagements and identifies client needs, tax planning, and consulting opportunities.
Provides executive presence and acts as the primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions.
Reviews complex individual, trust, estate, S-Corp, foundation, partnership, and gift tax returns and provides feedback to preparers.
Directs communication with government agencies for highly complex matters.
Identifies technical issues, conducts advanced tax research, and develops sound recommendations for PCS leadership, clients, and advisors.
Expands knowledge through client engagements and current tax developments.
Prioritizes and reviews work to keep engagements on track.
Assists with PCS/firm contributions including billing, recruiting, attendance and participation in CPE activities and training.
Builds new relationships and maintains existing relationships with BDO professionals and external sources.
Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises associates and senior associates on projects.
Reviews work prepared by associates and senior associates and provides review comments.
Trains associates and seniors on current software tools.
Acts as a Career Advisor to associates and seniors.
Schedules and manages workload of associates and senior associates.
Provides verbal and written performance feedback to associates and senior associates.
Education Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelors degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics preferred.
Masters in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
Experience
Seven (7) or more years of prior experience in accounting, finance, or law, required.
Experience in the private client service area, required.
Prior supervisory experience, required.
Experience working in public accounting, preferred.
License/Certifications
CPA, EA, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or equivalent required.
Other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role, preferred.
Software
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat, required.
Experience with tax compliance process software (GoSystems, BNA Tax Planner, GoFileRoom, SurePrep), preferred.
Experience with tax research tools (BNA Portfolio, CCH IntelliConnect, Checkpoint, LexisNexis), preferred.

Communication: Communicates effectively, presents clear narratives to clients and teams.
Leadership: Manages KPIs, follows up on assignments, and holds others accountable for deadlines.
Technical Skills: Serves as an internal resource and guides on technical matters; interacts with tax authorities as needed.
Business Development: Builds and leverages a network of financial decision makers and referral sources.
People Development: Supervises, develops, and trains employees; acts as a Career Advisor; provides holistic feedback and coaching.
