Lathrop GPM, one of the nation's leading law firms, has an immediate opening for a Legal Project Manager in any location, with a preference for Minneapolis, MN or Kansas City, MO. This position is responsible for developing and supporting attorneys with client-facing legal projects. This role involves direct client communication, coordinating teams, managing resources, and communicating with stakeholders. The Legal Project Manager also plays a crucial role in cost management, risk mitigation, and process improvement within the firm.

Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Chief Client Officer, Directors of Practice Management, Director of Business Development, Sr. Pricing Manager and Client Service Manager to identify service areas, clients or attorneys who will benefit from project management support.
Collaborate with attorneys and clients to scope out projects and develop matter plans with objectives, budgets, deliverables, and timelines.
Coordinate resources, including personnel, technology, and materials, to optimize project delivery. Serve as internal owner of the HighQ vendor relationship and oversee matter onboarding for client engagements.
Collaborate with pricing and finance teams to track and manage matter budgets, flag out-of-scope work, and improve overall matter efficiency.
Identify resources and staffing that align with budget proposals in collaboration with attorneys and Directors of Practice Management.
Monitor matter metrics (hours, time billed) and report updates to the legal team on a weekly or as-needed basis.
Provide organizational and analytical support to legal teams across matters.
Ensure timely, accurate, and professionally presented budgets and progress reports to internal stakeholders.
Support attorneys in post-matter reviews with internal teams or clients.
Deliver elevated experiences for attorneys and clients; resolve issues to completion and minimize client/attorney effort.
Educate clients on the firm's Legal Project Management Program when requested, including training client staff on collaboration with LPM initiatives.
Collaborate with Client & Practice Innovation Team to develop project management training for attorneys and paralegals.
Identify process efficiencies in client matters and train/coach the attorney team in LPM tools, methods, and best practices.
Develop and present communications of LPM successes for internal communications, client pitches and RFPs.
Stay informed on trends in legal project management and share learnings with the firm as appropriate.
Requirements
Strong customer service orientation, ability to meet deadlines, and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of law firm processes and attorney-client relationships.
Knowledge of all project management phases and documentation (including project plans, charters, budgets, risk assessments).
Knowledge of law firm pricing models and applying project management to maximize efficiency and profitability.
Ability to form strong, trusted relationships with attorneys and staff and be a credible resource.
Strong oral and written communication skills with business professionals, attorneys, and staff.
Knowledge of business analytics and the applications used for business analytics in law firms.
Ability to define a project and establish priorities among competing deliverables.
Strategic thinker with the ability to craft novel solutions responsive to client and attorney needs.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision and be flexible.
Strong technology skills.
A bachelor’s degree is required; a JD or MBA is preferred.
Project or process management certification is preferred (including legal project management, PMP, or Six Sigma).
Two to five years of experience managing large projects with complex variables and budgets in a highly matrixed organization.
Experience in a large law firm, corporate legal department, or similar service industry preferred.
Current anticipated salary ranges for applicants as required by applicable state laws are: Minneapolis, Kansas City, Chicago or Denver: $115,000 - $155,000. Washington, DC and Boston: $120,000 - $175,000. Actual salary will vary and may be above or below the range. Full comprehensive benefit plan including health care, retirement, and paid time off (PTO), parental leave, and disability insurance.
