Job Summary Involves applying user-centered design processes, industry standards, engineering, or best practices to create, evaluate and modify designs and prototypes for audio visual (AV) systems. Creates plans and specifications for highly detailed AV IT projects based on client needs, aligning design with codes, regulations and AV IT engineering best practices. Communicates with clients and monitors projects. Creates documentation and specifications for third-party installation teams and verifies installation work. Coordinates with other construction engineering teams, participates in building meetings and coordinates inspections. Responsibilities
Maintenance and troubleshooting of complex AV systems including audio programming (QSC, Tesira and similar), Dante audio, Crestron Control and related programming, firmware updates, device and cable repair. Coordinate vendors including programmers and installers. Initiate, develop and manage complex AV IT projects from needs assessment through design, engineering, installation and system commissioning. Participate in stakeholder meetings and interviews; monitor change requests and RFIs; track submittals and other project documents and report impacts on budget. Coordinate with IT, structural, mechanical and electrical professionals; coordinate inspections of complex projects with institutional inspectors and Capital Projects. Propose and develop short, medium, and long-range project schedules for Haas classroom AV/IT renovation and upgrade programs. Lead design of facilities and systems based on client needs, codes and AV principles; create detailed drawings and proposals using modeling software (AV flow diagrams, schematics, and AV infrastructure drawings). Provide installation guidance to clients and third-party firms; verify that projects’ systems designs are installed to plan specifications; communicate assessments and remediation recommendations to clients. Schedule and assign projects to staff; provide direction to lower-level AV or Educational Technology professionals. Initiate product research and provide recommendations on trends and sources with impact on Haas. Review and estimate schedules and design costs; prepare bid packages for outside contractors and lead on-site bid walks; may lead a team of AV IT professionals. Engage in ongoing professional learning and contribute to a culture of DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging). Strong creativity and problem-solving abilities; able to apply AV principles to complex assignments. Demonstrated ability to create AV flow diagrams, schematics and AV infrastructure drawings. Experience managing AV projects through scope, budget, planning, design, bid preparation, installation, inspection, testing and final walk-through. Ability to test and operate installed AV IT equipment. Knowledge of electronics theory with emphasis on audio, video and communications circuitry, AV IT control systems and signal flow. Knowledge of acoustic design theory; excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to convey technical information to technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to work with colleagues from diverse backgrounds; self-motivated and able to work independently or in a team; strong project management skills. Advanced knowledge of audio, video and control systems and related architectural and cabling requirements; advanced knowledge of AV IT design and field implementation. Demonstrated ability to lead a project or team and maintain a climate of fairness and professionalism. Minimum of 3 years of related work experience; commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Education/Training
Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations; ability to provide technical guidance based on AV principles. Advanced knowledge of Crestron, Q-SYS, and Evertz systems; experience with lecture capture and web conferencing systems. Experience in an educational setting; professional AVixa CTS, CTS-D, CTS-I certifications; Crestron certification; Q-SYS certification. Salary & Benefits This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs/week) exempt career position, paid monthly and eligible for UC Benefits. Budgeted salary range: $80,000.00 – $125,000.00.
