They assist the healthcare team in providing safe and age-appropriate patient care. The individual has the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform duties within the context of moderate to high acuity surgical cases. They exhibit an acquisition of additional surgical skills for progressively more difficult cases. The Surgical Technologist demonstrates an efficient and organized surgical plan for assigned cases. They take the initiative to discuss the surgical plan with other healthcare team members. They are able to troubleshoot instruments and equipment. The individual anticipates any additional supplies or equipment required for procedures. They possess the ability to mentor, precept, or train in various modalities. Participation in performance improvement initiatives is expected. Duties include preparation of the operative suite and surgical field to ensure a safe patient care environment. The individual must remain vigilant regarding the maintenance of the sterile field and other patient safety concerns. Additional duties may include assisting with inventory, ordering, and stocking of operating rooms and perioperative areas. They also ensure compliance with all relevant standards at all times. Call or late coverage may be required depending on facility needs. Prepare case carts according to procedure requirements and preference cards. Complete all required competencies and participate in mandatory education. Provide a positive learning environment for students and new hires. Assume responsibility for additional duties as assigned. Care for surgical equipment and ensure cleanliness. Complete all necessary training related to new policies and procedures.
