Job Description Job Title: Cath Lab Tech Profession: Cath Lab Technologist Specialty: Cardiac Cath Lab Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 10-hour days Hours per Shift: 40 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Cath Lab Tech License: Registered with ARRT and licensed by the appropriate governing body Certifications: CPR certified
Must-Have: - Knowledge of principles and procedures of diagnostic radiology as normally acquired through completion of two years post high school training at an approved School of Radiologic Technology with six months related training in radiologic special procedures. - Minimum of 1 year job experience to gain technical competency in performing radiologic special procedures. - The job incumbent is required to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
Description: Performs cine, digital subtraction angiography, and other specialized radiologic procedures under sterile technique to aid physicians in diagnosis and treatment of patients. Prepares examination area, positions patients for procedures, and operates complex radiology equipment in accordance with established techniques and routines. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the ages of the patients served while always following established guidelines for radiation safety. Operates the physiologic monitor to record functions of the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems of patients during diagnostic and interventional cardiac and vascular procedures. Functions as a scrub tech by obtaining and arranging sterile setups of the instrument table with supplies required for specific procedures. Passes catheters and other sterile instruments and equipment to the physician, anticipating and responding to the physician's needs during procedures. Prepares patients for procedures by positioning them, applying sterile technique to catheter insertion sites, and explaining procedures to patients to allay apprehensions. Reviews patient charts and/or computer records prior to procedures to verify all required laboratory work has been completed. Completes necessary paperwork, maintains patient records, and files films. Operates complex radiology equipment ensuring proper exposure for diagnostic procedures. Transfers images to the cardiac picture archival system, ensuring accurate storage in patient records. Ensures all equipment is in proper working order by performing minor repairs or notifying appropriate personnel of malfunctioning equipment. Monitors patients' cardiovascular and pulmonary systems during catheterization procedures and alerts the physician to significant changes. Attends mandatory department meetings and other educational programs. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with department personnel and outside agencies. Assists in preparing rooms between patients by cleaning equipment, disposing of contaminated materials, and replenishing supplies. Completes monthly on-call requirements, including weekends and holidays. Attends department and medical center meetings along with required educational programs to support continuous quality improvement efforts. Successfully completes the special procedure technologist competency.
