We practice culturally sustaining pedagogies, incorporate Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles in both coursework and fieldwork, and collaborate with local districts to promote the success of students with disabilities in inclusive settings. We seek to attain these objectives through modeling respect, inclusivity, collaboration, and consensus while prioritizing the wellness of our students, faculty, and staff. Candidates may choose one of three pathways to complete their fieldwork requirements: Teacher Residency Program, Intern Program, or Traditional Student Teaching. San Jos State is a Minority-Serving Institution, and fieldwork placements are in urban, rural, and suburban schools. Brief Description of Duties We invite applications for a pool of part-time instructors to provide clinical supervision and seminars to special education teacher candidates engaged in student teaching and/or Intern teaching. Clinical supervision involves observations of classroom teaching (in person and on-line) and providing meaningful formative feedback after each observation, maintaining records of candidates' areas of growth and need, holding bi-weekly seminars, attending monthly supervisor meetings and professional development, and serving as liaison between the university and school sites. Required Qualifications Education Specialist credential with at least 3 years of experience with students with mild-moderate support needs, 5 years preferred, in public school settings PK-12 Strong understanding of evidence-based practices for students with disabilities, including students who are emergent bilinguals, and those from diverse linguistic and socio-economic backgrounds and historically marginalized communities Strong understanding of how to implement high-leverage practices for special education in classroom settings Familiarity with California Education Specialist Teaching Performance Assessment Strong understanding of coaching strategies to support the development of novice teachers Application Process If you're interested, please contact Dr. Lisa Simpson, Chair of the Special Education Department,atlisa.simpson@sjsu.edu.
