Overview
Engineer IV, Systems at X-energy Location: 530 Gaither Road, Rockville, MD | Work Site: 4-5 days in office | Travel: 10% as needed | Hours: 8:00am–5:00pm ET, Monday–Friday Position is responsible for executing rigorous systems engineering processes to support the design, integration, and management of complex nuclear systems throughout their lifecycles. Working within established model-based systems engineering frameworks, this role ensures all system components work together effectively and meet project requirements. The Systems Engineer focuses on verifying and validating product requirements according to the systems engineering lifecycle process while maintaining clear documentation of design decisions and system interfaces.
Responsibilities
Lead the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities with minimal supervision and some latitude for independent judgment.
Provide feedback and guidance to junior team members on core tasks and responsibilities.
Lead small groups of engineers to solve complex technical problems and deliver high-quality engineering work products on time and within budget.
Apply systems thinking to solve problems, analyze and design systems, and consider interdependencies between components.
Lead and manage systems engineering lifecycle efforts surrounding:
Stakeholder and operational analysis
Requirement identification, decomposition, and management
Functional decomposition and modeling
Logical system architecture development and modeling
Physical product definition, interface management, and change control
Design integration and testing
System verification and validation
Concept of operations development and modeling
Develop and maintain system behavior models using MBSE tools within Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) frameworks.
Identify and monitor technical risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Support value engineering activities including cost analyses and cost reduction opportunities.
Write and review engineering documentation, reports, and communicate technical details and project progress to stakeholders.
Execute systems engineering processes within X-energy’s quality management framework.
Collaborate across engineering disciplines to ensure effective integration of system components and subsystems.
Follow X-energy quality assurance procedures to ensure compliance with required standards.
Maintain professional demeanor in all communications.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in industrial and systems engineering or other engineering discipline from ABET-accredited institution required.
Typically ten years of experience in an engineering role.
A master’s degree in engineering or related field may substitute for up to two years of experience.
A Ph.D. in engineering or related field may substitute for up to three years of experience.
Previous experience at X-energy exceeding performance standards may substitute for years of experience.
Experience with systems engineering software tools.
Knowledge in at least one of the following areas:
System Lifecycle Processes (ISO 15288) including Operational & Stakeholder Analysis, Requirements Management, System Design & Interface Management, Design Integration & Testing, Verification & Validation
Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Tools and Methods with PLM Systems (e.g., Teamcenter, Cameo, Capella, Genesys, SysML, DOORS).
Compensation and Benefits A reasonable estimate for this position is $136,026 - $173,811, with exact offer determined by education, experience, and qualifications. Compensation ranges reflect base salary and may vary by location.
