We are seeking a high-potential Commercial Real Estate Lending Underwriting Transactor to grow and manage the Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW) CRE lending platform serving UHNW clients (generally those with a minimum net worth of at least $50 million) of WM. The role can be based in Purchase, New York, or Coral Gables, FL, and will support and collaborate with UHNW Senior Lending Transactors (SLTs) and Asset Managers (AMs) across the US. Responsibilities
Support Lending transactors in the execution and maintenance of Commercial Real Estate secured loans on Morgan Stanley’s balance sheet. Engage in ongoing portfolio maintenance including monitoring loan covenants, loan servicing, and ensuring accurate and timely updates of loan portfolio metrics/reports. Conduct annual relationship and loan reviews to monitor collateral performance during the term of the loan/relationship. Evaluate UHNW Lending opportunities specific to commercial real estate, including evaluating obligors, collateral valuation, and alignment with the UHNW Commercial Real Estate Lending program. Perform due diligence on collateral properties and sponsors, including underwriting cash flows, rent roll analysis, balance sheets, and understanding global cash flow of guarantors. Identify key risks and mitigants related to existing loans and new opportunities; propose structural protections and other terms to mitigate risk. Prepare or assist in the preparation of credit memoranda outlining transaction purpose, strengths, risks, mitigants, financial/collateral analysis, and key terms to support recommendations. Assist the SLT/AM in efficiently managing the transaction cycle through final credit approval, documentation, closing and initial funding, coordinating with CRM, Loan Operations, Compliance, In-house Counsel, and other stakeholders. Experience
Bachelor’s Degree required; Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in commercial real estate lending, origination and/or credit analysis; Private Banking Lending experience is a plus; Formal credit training a plus. Skills/Abilities
Strong communication skills, orally and in writing, with professionalism. Critical thinking to evaluate data and make sound judgments. Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy. Exceptional analytical skills and significant accounting/finance knowledge. Organization, time management, and ability to multi-task to meet deadlines.
