Registered Nurse (RN) Qualifications:
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for all aspects of nursing care including but not limited to: nursing assessment plan, treatment plan development, ASAM admission criteria, daily assessments and medication administration, and overseeing the medical and psychiatric management of the client in coordination with the attending physician, ARNP, Clinical Treatment Team, and Chief Nursing Officer.
- Associates in Nursing
- 1+ years of experience as an RN in a detox or similar treatment facility environment
- State RN license in good standing
- Maintains current CPR certification
- Detox and Psychiatric Nursing experience required
- Experienced in administering medication orally, subcutaneously, and IM
- Ability to recognize signs and symptoms of withdrawal pain and critically dangerous medical emergencies and respond appropriately
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Able to respond physically with swiftness to a patient emergency
- Able to respond calmly and promptly during emergencies or potential emergencies
- Familiarity with ASAM criteria preferred
- Familiarity with JCAHO Standards of Care for Behavioral Health
- Electronic Health Record experience
Registered Nurse (RN) Duties:
The Detox Nurse guides patients through detox processes per physician’s orders, educates patients about their conditions, and assists physicians and ARNPs with clinical reporting. Responsibilities include nursing assessments at intake, discharge actions, medication administration, and maintaining medication security. The Detox Nurse reports to the Chief Nursing Officer. Specific tasks include:
- Administers prescribed medications
- Makes independent decisions regarding patient care within license scope
- Informs the Chief Nursing Officer/Charge Nurse and Medical Director of decisions and actions
- Monitors and records patient care via Electronic Health System, including assessments, condition changes, and discharge paperwork
- Ensures infection control and safety policies are followed
- Reconciles medication logs accurately at shift end
