Research Assistant - RNA Therapeutics Core Facility
We are looking for a talented research assistant to participate in the development of the RNA Therapeutics Core Facility at the Sidney-Altman Hub at the Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM).
You will play a central role in establishing the core facility services and in the execution of activities. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in RNA therapies and to stimulate innovation in RNA biology.
Summary of responsibilities
Project management and execution:
- Perform research design and planning of RNA therapeutic projects with the core facility manager.
- Carry out laboratory work, including:
- Synthesis, purification, and NGS of sc-pDNA plasmids and vectors.
- Design of RNA sequences and vectors.
- In vitro RNA synthesis, purification, translation, and quality control assays using HPLC, Nanodrop, ELISA, Flow Cytometry, etc.
- Analysis of DNA template quality such as Poly A tail, linearization efficiency, and quantification.
- Quality control and analysis of RNA using Nanodrop, ELISA, nanopore sequencing.
- Formulation of lipid nanoparticles and RNA encapsulation, with quality control monitoring.
- Screening in cell culture for dose-response effects.
- Assist with oligonucleotide synthesis (e.g., ASO, siRNA, sgRNA), including purification, lyophilization, and analysis.
- Apply molecular biology techniques and optimize experimental procedures for plasmid and PCR product analysis, bioconjugation, etc.
- Create, collect, and interpret experimental data following GLP guidelines.
- Assist in establishing quality control measures for RNA, oligonucleotides, and nanolipid particles.
Operational and collaboration:
- Contribute to developing the service offering of the RNA therapeutic core facility.
- Support collaborations with partner labs, institutions, and clients.
Required qualifications:
- Master’s degree (MSc) in molecular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or related field.
- Two to three years of industry experience.
- Experience in cell culture, cell-based assays, PCR, in vitro RNA synthesis, HPLC, FPLC, Mass Spectrometry, Capillary Electrophoresis, Lipid nanoparticles, DLS, UF/DF, Nanodrop.
- Strong background in mammalian and bacterial cell culture, molecular biology techniques, and bioanalytical methods.
Knowledge and skills:
- Previous exposure to therapeutic RNA applications.
- Knowledge of RNA biology principles.
- Proficiency with MS-Office, Smart Sheets, Project, Excel, etc.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize.
- Basic knowledge of oligonucleotide synthesis and ligation.
- Understanding of cGMP requirements.
- Experience with LIMS and QMS is a plus.
Working conditions:
- Full-time temporary position (35 hours/week), with potential extension.
