Overview
Are you looking to make a difference by improving the health of our patients? This role supports the Department Manager and Administration Staff with confidential administrative, secretarial and clerical duties. The position participates in the department's performance improvement efforts and attends select committee meetings for proper follow-up.
What You'll Do
- Provide high quality and confidential administrative support to assigned providers.
- Answer, screen and triage telephone calls in a professional manner; take detailed, accurate messages and ensure follow-up within an acceptable timeframe.
- Type memoranda, reports and correspondence; maintain required knowledge of computer programs to support clinical operations.
- Utilize IDX and Microsoft Outlook to manage provider schedules and schedule patients as needed.
- Maintain provider calendars and coordinate related paperwork for meetings, time off and travel; ensure completeness and timeliness.
- Process incoming correspondence confidentially and promptly.
- Prioritize work, communicate status of tasks to providers and managers, and complete work promptly.
- Process clinical paperwork (dictation, labs, pathologies, prescriptions) with minimal exceptions per year as observed by providers.
- Provide other administrative support to ensure quality service and continuous improvement of clinical operations.
- Schedule outpatient appointments via telephone requests, reminder lists, or other sources according to departmental protocols and QA reviews.
- Cross-train in scheduling and reception functions and locations as determined by departmental training schedules.
- Coordinate scheduling of procedures and any required pre- or post-procedure follow-up with appropriate entities.
- Coordinate diagnostic testing appointments and communicate with various departments.
- Obtain authorization information for diagnostic testing, including ICD-9 codes and relevant notes.
- Promote quality health care through continual learning, proactive communication and teamwork.
- Resolve problems within scope of authority and provide cross-coverage as needed to ensure adequate coverage during time off.
- Present a professional image of Bassett Medical Center and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Discuss patient care issues privately as appropriate and access medical documentation on a need-to-know basis.
- Respond to patient/family inquiries and coordinate care plans and appointments as appropriate.
- Continue education to maintain competency in programs required for daily responsibilities.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED, preferred
- Administrative Assistant Training or AAS degree, preferred

Pay Range
Pay range is based on factors including qualifications, experience, education, licenses, and market standards.
- Pay Range Minimum: USD $20.29/Hr.
- Pay Range Maximum: USD $30.44/Hr.
