Overview


Truck Driver - DPW role at City of Gardner, MA. We are seeking a skilled Truck Driver to join our team. This position involves operating a variety of motorized equipment essential to municipal operations, as well as performing basic maintenance tasks and occasional manual labor. Hours are Monday through Thursday 6:30am-3:30pm and Friday 6:30am-12:30pm.



Key Responsibilities



  • Operate motorized equipment, including trucks with a rated capacity of over 9 tons, tractors, semi-trailers, and truck-trailer combinations.

  • Handle specialized equipment such as rollers, rotary snow plows, mobile highway graders, bituminous spreaders, and tar distributors.

  • Operate hoisting equipment or machinery of varying complexity, including backhoes, cranes, power shovels, trench diggers, and front-end loaders.

  • Perform loading and unloading of trucks, picking up and hauling materials, plowing, and sanding highways.

  • Conduct minor maintenance on equipment, such as greasing, oiling, cleaning, and changing tires.

  • Occasionally operate equipment typically assigned to Motor Equipment or Heavy Motor Equipment Operators.

  • Assist with manual labor tasks, including jackhammering, sidewalk sweeping, and pothole filling, as directed by supervisors.



Qualifications



  • Proven experience operating heavy equipment and machinery.

  • Knowledge of basic equipment maintenance and repair.

  • Ability to perform manual labor tasks as needed.

  • Strong understanding of workplace safety practices and protocols.

  • Relevant licenses and certifications as required by state regulations.

  • Must have a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator’s License issued by the Registry of Motor Vehicles Class A or Class B with air brake endorsement.

  • Must be available to work overtime.
