General Purpose

The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring customers have a positive shopping experience. This includes greeting customers with eye contact and a smile, treating fellow associates with respect, following company best practices, maintaining a clean work area, and ensuring proper merchandise presentation. The Associate is expected to perform a range of tasks in all store areas as needed to support customer service and store operations.

Essential Functions

  • Safety is the number one priority; practice safe behaviors at all times.
  • Maintain a safe, clutter-free sales floor and ensure clear egress to emergency exits; report unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
  • Treat customers and associates with respect and courtesy; recognize fellow associates using company recognition programs.
  • Assist customers as needed; register-trained; help with merchandise questions; greet customers with eye contact, a smile, and a courteous hello; thank customers at every register transaction.
  • Provide prompt, courteous responses to Customer Service calls and issues; escalate to Store Leadership when needed.
  • Represent and support the Ross brand at all times.
  • Perform cleaning tasks and maintain cleanliness of store and restrooms; replenish supplies.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to dress code.
  • Perform daily sizing and recovery to keep the store neat, clean, and merchandised to standards.
  • Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor; merchandise items per guidelines and maintain brand familiarity to assist Customers.
  • Understand Loss Prevention Awareness, MOS policies, and merchandise protection standards.
  • Demonstrate integrity and safeguard confidential information, cash, and merchandise.
  • Follow MOS policies and proper processing and disposal as needed; assist leadership as required.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency to maximize productivity by following store best practices and minimizing steps in workflow.

Qualifications And Special Skills Required

  • Effectively communicate with Customers, Associates and Store Leadership in a friendly, respectful, cooperative and pleasant manner.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements/ADA

  • Ability to use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers and PCs as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store up to 100% of working time.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop regularly.
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift more than 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other supplies.
  • Some assignments may require other qualifications and skills.
  • Stockroom associates: ability to regularly push, pull and lift more than 20 pounds.
