General purpose: The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring customers have a positive shopping experience, greeting customers, maintaining a clean work area, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and performing a range of tasks across store areas as business needs require.

Responsibilities

  • Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe environment; keep egress clear and report unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
  • Treat customers and associates with respect and courtesy; greet customers with eye contact, a smile, and a friendly attitude; participate in company recognition programs as appropriate.
  • Assist customers by being register-trained, helping with merchandise, answering questions, and handling transactions professionally.
  • Respond promptly to Customer Service requests and escalate issues to Store Leadership when needed.
  • Represent and support the Ross brand at all times.
  • Perform cleaning tasks and replenishment to maintain merchandise, customer, and team areas to standards.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to dress code.
  • Complete daily sizing and recovery to keep the store neat, clean, and merchandised to standards.
  • Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor and merchandise items per monthly presentation guidelines.
  • Understand Loss Prevention programs and store protection standards.
  • Demonstrate integrity and safeguard confidential information, cash, and merchandise.
  • Follow MOS policies and proper processing for disposals; handle cash and tender transactions accurately.
  • Operate with a sense of urgency to maximize productivity and follow Store best practices.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Effective communication with Customers, Associates, and Store Leadership in a friendly, respectful manner.
  • Basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements / ADA

  • Ability to use store equipment including PDTs, registers, and PCs as required.
  • Standing, walking, and moving around the store for up to 100% of shift time.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, reach, and stoop; push/pull and lift up to 25 pounds; use janitorial equipment and ladders as needed.
  • Stockroom shifts may require lifting up to 20 pounds.

Compensation

The base pay range for this role is $19.18 - $19.68 per hour. The range is influenced by experience, skills, qualifications, education, seniority, and location. This is one component of the total compensation package; other rewards vary by position and location.
