Retail Associate at Ross Stores, Inc. The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring customers have a positive shopping experience, greeting customers, and maintaining merchandise presentation and store standards. This role may be required to perform a range of functions in all areas of the Store as business needs require, and to perform additional tasks to support customer service and operational goals.

General Purpose: The Retail Associate ensures a positive shopping experience for customers, maintains a clean work area, follows company best practices, and adheres to the dress code and safety standards.

Essential Functions

  • Understands that safety is the number one priority and practices safe behaviors in everything they do.
  • Maintains a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe shopping environment; keeps aisles clear and reports unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
  • Treats Customers and Associates with respect and courtesy; greets customers and provides knowledgeable assistance; follows up on customer needs and inquiries.
  • Assists Customers as needed—is register-trained, helps with merchandise, and responds to customer questions promptly and professionally.
  • Provides prompt responses to Customer Service requests and escalates to Store Leadership as needed.
  • Represents and supports the Company brand at all times.
  • Performs cleaning tasks to maintain store cleanliness and replenishes supplies, ensuring high-touch areas are disinfected.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and adheres to the Company’s dress code.
  • Performs daily sizing and recovery to keep the store neat, organized, and merchandised to standards.
  • Expedites newly received merchandise to the sales floor and merchandises items per monthly presentation guidelines.
  • Understands Loss Prevention programs and merchandise protection standards where applicable.
  • Safeguards confidential information and company assets.
  • Follows MOS policies and proper processing of disposals with Store Leadership review.
  • Follows policies concerning cash, checks, charge cards, refunds, voids, and offline procedures with accuracy on tender handling.
  • Performs with a sense of urgency to maximize productivity and minimize unnecessary steps.

Qualifications And Special Skills Required

  • Effectively communicate with Customers, Associates and Store Leadership in a friendly, respectful manner.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements/Ada

  • Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers and PCs as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store for up to 100% of the working time.
  • Ability to regularly bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull and lift more than 25 pounds.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other assigned supplies.
  • Some assignments may require additional qualifications and skills.
  • Stockroom shifts: ability to regularly push, pull and lift more than 20 pounds.
