Job Description: Associate

The Associate supports daily operations, ensuring excellent customer service, efficient merchandising, and smooth donation processing. This role plays a key part in advancing the organization's mission by helping generate revenue through the sale of donated goods.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide a welcoming and positive shopping experience for customers.
  2. Assist customers with purchases, pricing inquiries, and store policies.
  3. Operate the cash register and process sales transactions accurately and in adherence to policy.
  4. Assist clients with vouchers by answering questions, processing vouchers tactfully, and maintaining client confidentiality. Provide information regarding LISTEN services as needed.

Merchandising & Store Maintenance

  1. Sort, price, and display donated merchandise following store guidelines.
  2. Maintain clean and organized store displays and dressing rooms.
  3. Restock shelves and ensure inventory rotation based on store needs.
  4. Support the design of merchandise displays for special sales.
  5. Accept and sort donations, ensuring they meet store quality standards.
  6. Handle merchandise pricing per established pricing guidelines.
  7. Assist in maintaining an organized donation storage area.

Training and Volunteer Support

  1. Support team members wherever needed.
  2. Provide support and cooperation to volunteers to maximize their contributions for LISTEN.

Store Operations, Safety & Other Duties

  1. Follow store procedures regarding cash handling, inventory control, safety, and security.
  2. Provide a clean, safe, and accessible store environment for customers and staff.
  3. Assist with store opening and closing tasks.
  4. Support special sales, promotions, and community engagement efforts.
  5. Participate in staff meetings and training.

Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of LCS.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
  • Previous retail or customer service experience preferred.
  • Passion for non-profit work and thrift store operations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Respect for and ability to maintain client confidentiality.
  • Basic math skills for handling transactions and pricing items.
  • Ability to lift up to 40-50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.

Cognitive Skills:

Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively and professionally. Occasionally use math skills. Handle difficult situations diplomatically while maintaining professionalism.

Physical Demands:

Constantly on feet, walking, and standing. Frequently reach, handle, and finger. Occasionally bend, squat, climb stairs, push, and pull. Rarely crouch, kneel, crawl, balance, twist, stretch, and sit. Frequently lift/move 25-50 lbs.

Work Environment:

Exposure to noise, fumes, dust, and seasonal temperatures. The sorting area has some environmental control but is exposed to outside temperatures when doors are open.
