Cursive is a fast-growing, technology-driven manufacturing company delivering high-quality products to some of today’s most innovative consumer brands. We are seeking an experienced Accountant or Controller with a deep understanding of manufacturing operations, Netsuite ERP, and a strong grasp of both financial and HR administrative functions.
Job Summary:
This hybrid role will be responsible for leading financial operations, driving cost accounting excellence, supporting HR and payroll administration, and reporting key insights to executive leadership and the Board of Directors. The ideal candidate brings both strategic vision and a hands-on approach to driving operational efficiency and organizational transparency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily accounting functions, including AP/AR, GL management, and reconciliations.
- Own the month-end and year-end close process and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare internal financial statements and variance analyses for leadership review.
- Manage manufacturing cost accounting, including inventory valuation, standard costing, and job costing.
- Lead budgeting and forecasting processes in coordination with department heads.
- Serve as the Netsuite administrator for financial modules, ensuring system integrity and accuracy.
- Build and maintain custom reports and dashboards to support finance, operations, and leadership teams.
- Optimize workflows and data structures in Netsuite for improved financial visibility and efficiency.
HR & Payroll Administration
- Manage biweekly payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality.
- Administer employee benefits programs (health, dental, 401(k), PTO, etc.), and serve as the point of contact for employee inquiries.
- Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations.
- Support onboarding, offboarding, and employee lifecycle documentation.
- Coordinate annual benefit renewals and open enrollment processes with brokers and carriers.
Board Reporting & Executive Support
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial packages for presentation to the Board of Directors.
- Deliver executive-level insights on financial performance, risks, and opportunities.
- Support strategic planning and investor reporting with accurate and timely data.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
- 5–10+ years of experience in accounting, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong proficiency with Netsuite ERP.
- Hands-on experience with cost accounting, inventory management, and job costing.
- Working knowledge of payroll systems and HRIS platforms.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
- Experience preparing board-level reporting and financial packages.
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and highly organized with strong analytical and communication skills.
Preferred:
- Experience with benefit plan administration and renewals.
- Previous experience supporting a founder-led or VC-backed business.
