Chamberlain Advisors is conducting an executive search for an Accountant for their direct client. As a key partner to the Chief Financial Officer the Accountant will assist in preparing and maintaining financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit & loss, and related financial activities. The Accountant will provide accounting expertise, gather accounting information into the accounting system, perform month-end close procedures, support leadership with audits, maintain general ledger activity, review banking transactions, and conduct financial statement analyses and preparation. This role will perform general accounting functions and work closely with the CFO to ensure appropriate and consistent financial reporting and controls across all of the client’s operations. This is a hands-on, fast-paced role reporting to the CFO.

Ideal Candidate Background

  • Strong private company or private equity-backed environment experience (understands financial cadence and urgency).
  • Prior exposure to distribution, inventory management, and import operations.
  • Experience allocating product costs and managing inventory-related financial activities.
  • Background in fast-moving, small company environments with independence.

What You Will Be Accountable For Accomplishing

  • Review and maintain general ledger activity; reconcile GL accounts. Full life-cycle accounting for AP/AR, month-end close, posting journal entries, financial statement analyses & preparation, and supporting audits.
  • Assist and support the CFO with monthly, quarterly, and annual close tasks.
  • Perform month-end close processes with a goal of completing close within 5–10 days.
  • Manage intercompany transactions and ensure accounts properly tie out.
  • Assist in developing a 13-week cash flow forecasting system; monitor cash flow and line of credit activity.
  • Oversee HR-related tasks, benefits questions, and payroll processes (minimal involvement, outsourced PEO, ADP system).
  • Handle client billing requests, vendor invoicing, and A/R collections (including follow-up on overdue invoices).
  • Partner with overseas accountants and ensure timely, accurate responses to accounting questions and adjustments.
  • Serve as a point of contact for client requests, tying documentation back to purchase orders and ensuring thorough follow-up.
  • Assist with various accounting projects for a fast-growing company such as ERP system integrations, compliance, accounting policies, audit requests, documenting procedures, internal controls, and automation of manual processes where possible.
  • Provide requested documents for financial statements, internal, regulatory, or third-party audits.
  • Be a proactive problem solver and a resource to internal teams, stepping up independently to address emerging issues.
  • Work professionally and maintain emotional intelligence when interacting across departments and functions.

Technical Skills Required

  • Excel Proficiency: Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, data parsing, variance analysis, slicing/dicing large datasets).
  • Financial Acumen: Ability to recognize discrepancies and variances from GL, and propose solutions with minimal direction.

What You Will Need

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field / equivalent experience.
  • At least 4 – 7 years of progressive financial accounting experience.
  • Knowledge and comprehension of full cycle accounting processes; confident with journal entries, GL reconciliations, state sales tax filings, and payroll accruals.
  • Robust understanding of financial statements, reporting, and statement preparation (P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flows).
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP; distribution, inventory, and import experience preferred.
  • Analytical and organizational skills with keen attention to detail; able to interpret financial data.
  • Flexibility in handling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines while delivering high-quality results.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, balancing multiple projects independently.
