Griffen Plumbing and Heating was founded in 1982 in Elkhart, Indiana. The company has expanded from two service technicians to over 50 full-time employees. We provide a wide range of services including preventative maintenance, air compressor services, design build, plumbing, boiler and chiller services. Griffen Plumbing & Heating emphasizes a "customer first" philosophy and invests in ongoing training and education for our technicians, including a five-year apprenticeship and various certifications such as medical gas, backflow prevention, CFC refrigerant, and welding.

Position Overview:

Griffen Plumbing & Heating is seeking a full-time Senior Staff Accountant to play a crucial role in the company's financial operations. This role will assist in establishing proper accounting procedures and help our department reach financial reporting objectives.

Key Responsibilities include:

People & Leadership:

Serve as a backup to various Accounting functions

Establish and maintain employee onboarding/offboarding

Review and approve payroll weekly

Review and approve Accounts Payable check runs

Accounting policies and procedures:

Maintaining and improving internal financial controls and procedures

Oversee the processes of the Accounting Department and create documented process and procedures

Ensuring day to day accounting functions are carried out accurately and efficiently

Financial Reporting:

Meeting the financial close deadline (currently the ASTRA 5 day close)

Prepare and enter monthly journal entries and reconcile various accounts

Perform weekly Bank Reconciliation

Prepare and manage Fixed Asset depreciation calculations and roll forward

Track new vehicles and update lease entry

Prepare and manage lease amortization entries related to Fleet purchases

Union benefits reporting and filing

Project Accounting:

Enter new projects, estimates and contract billing information

Maintain electronic accounting project files with cost, billing and warranty information

Prepare billings including AIA documents, progress bills, and waivers

Enter change order billing information and cost estimate

Inventory Management:

Establish and document process & procedures

Reconciliation to the general ledger

Coordinate annual physical count and rotating truck counts

Additional Tasks:

Assist in software implementation.

Assist with audit preparation

Prepare and file monthly Sales/Use Tax and Personal Property returns

Skills and Experience Desired:

Accounting Degree Required

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook

Previous related work experience or education

Strong organizational, communication and analytical skills

Salary: $70k + bonus potential
