The City of Lynwood is recruiting for an Accountant to be a part of the Finance Team!

DESCRIPTION

This recruitment is to establish an eligibility list of qualified candidates to fill one (1) current full-time vacancy and any future vacancies as they become available within the Finance Department.



THE POSITION

Under the general direction of the Finance Director, performs professional accounting work including the maintenance and review of financial records; prepares various reports and financial statement; and performs a variety of technical tasks and duties as required.

WORK SCHEDULE
This position is a benefited, general/management, full-time, working hours to be assigned at the discretion of the Finance Director. Candidates may be required to work irregular hours, various shifts, weekends, holidays and/or on-call status.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:(include but are not limited to the following)
Maintain a complete set of records of financial transactions by overseeing, reviewing, and entering transaction details in the financial system; ensure all account summary information equals control account balances; reconcile cash and balance sheet accounts; review revenue and expense accounts; reclassifies accounting transactions into proper account classifications; ensure that pre-established accounting controls are applied to balance sheets, fund accounts and special accounts according to generally accepted accounting principles; prepares periodic reports of revenue and expense performance, asset balances, cash balances, accounts payable, accounts aging summaries, and all other accounts that contribute to a complete accounting of activity; prepares accounting reports documenting adjustments to account balances, detailing the transaction trail for audit purposes; assists internal and external auditors with the review of financial records and transactions; prepare and/or audit necessary journal entries; prepare and audit bank reconciliations; review integrity of the reconciliation such as open items and accounts balances; assist in department accounting functions including accounts payable and payroll.
Knowledge of:
Thorough technical knowledge of methods and techniques of auditing; pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations; modern and complex principles and practices of general and fund accounting; principles of general ledger; methods and techniques of governmental accounting and finance practices; maintain and prepare a variety of complex financial and accounting records.

Ability to
:
Analyze and resolve technical financial issues; apply accounting principles and procedures to a variety of transactions; perform a variety of professional accounting duties; prepare accurate and complete accounting transactions; and research data and prepare clear and concise financial reports.
Training:
Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities, is qualifying

Experience:

Minimum of three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional accounting and auditing experience.


Education:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in accounting.

Special Requirements:

Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles and good driving record.

California Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Pull Notice System: An incumbent appointed to this position is subject to enrollment in the California DMV Pull Notice Program. The Pull Notice Program provides information on the incumbent's driving record and Driver's License status on a periodic basis to the City of Lynwood.
