Position Summary

  • The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintenance of the General Ledger and monthly and year-end journal entries to accurately reflect the University's accounts
  • The Senior Accountant assists with monthly budget reporting and financial statement generation, as well as account reconciliation and variance analysis
  • The Senior Accountant oversees the entire Accounts Payable process
  • The Senior Accountant reports directly to the University Controller

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Any one position may not include all of the listed duties, nor do all of the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions within this classification)

  • Responsible for preparing and posting monthly journal entries to properly reflect assets, liability, income, and expense accounts
  • Responsible for accurate and timely closing of the general ledger at month and year end
  • Responsible for preparation of account reconciliations and variance analysis
  • Responsible for managing the University's Corporate Credit Card Program including reconciliation of credit card charges
  • Oversee the entire Accounts Payable process
  • Assisting with annual external audit process and accreditation process
  • Ensuring that general ledger balances are complete and correct in compliance with GAAP and internal control structure
  • Preparation of weekly and monthly cash flow reports
  • Responsible for monthly GP Dynamics bank reconciliation
  • Perform various bank transactions and maintenance of checkbook
  • Preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements and reports for Executive Management
  • Responsible for chart of accounts maintenance and reporting structure

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education, Training and Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
    • 3 to 5 years of prior Accounting experience
    • Prior experience with Microsoft Dynamics preferred
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP standards
    • Experience in the operation of various electronic office equipment (calculator, computer, fax, printer, copier, telephone)
  • Skill and Ability to:
    • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel and an understanding of database structure and ability to learn computer programs and/or various report tools and applications as needed
    • Sufficient skills, knowledge and training to take full ownership of and responsibility for all essential functions of this position
    • The University requires that all candidates be Christians (preferably in the Wesleyan tradition), and must be comfortable with, in agreement with the mission and lifestyle values of OCU
    • High motivation and commitment to the University, including the ability to self-start, be calm under pressure, meet deadlines, work without direct supervision, be able to multi-task, and relate to a variety of personalities under diverse circumstances
    • Strong organization skills and detail oriented, with the ability to work quickly in an open environment
    • Excellent customer service skills with strong communication skills, both oral and written
    • Ability to work with others and foster teamwork
    • Ability to maintain confidential information and files
