The Accountant Trainee maintains working relationships with department personnel, other state departments, vendors, and US Bank. The Accountant Trainee reviews and analyzes CalATERS claims for accuracy and compliance.

Job Description and Duties

Under the close supervision of the Administrator I, the Accountant Trainee performs semi-professional accounting duties in the establishment and maintenance of accounts and financial records for Agency activities. The Accountant Trainee maintains working relationships with department personnel, other state departments, vendors, and US Bank. The Accountant Trainee reviews and analyzes CalATERS claims for accuracy and compliance. Separation of Duties: The duties of this position include responsibilities covered by the State Administrative Manual (SAM) Section 7280. To ensure proper separation of duties, you may not be eligible for this position if a family member (domestic partners, children, husband, wife, brother, sister, or individuals living in the same household) works in the Accounting Section.

Working Conditions

  • This position is eligible for remote working within California based on departmental guidelines and operational need. FTB has a minimum in-office requirement of two days per week for all positions including those that are eligible for telework.

The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Ability to apply general accounting principles.
  • Ability to research, analyze data and source documents and arrive at sound conclusions and appropriate actions.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to update and create new procedures, prioritize, complete tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with the California Automated Travel Expense and Reimbursement System (CalATERS).
  • Knowledge of the Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal).
  • Customer Service Experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
