Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Requires at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years’ security, police or military experience
  • Work experience on a University Campus

Duties, Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Foot Patrols: Conduct patrols around assigned residential community; check buildings and grounds; monitor life safety issues.
  • Policy and Safety: Watch for and report life safety issues, secure doors/windows, and assist with safety protocols.
  • Escorts and Transportation: Provide walking escorts for students and vehicle transport for housing staff when requested.
  • Coverage: Provide coverage during holidays, breaks, and special events.
  • Incident Response: Respond to incidents, document properly, and coordinate with UGA Police Officers as directed.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and professional paperwork and reports; use body-worn camera when appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

  • Write clear and accurate shift and incident reports.
  • Remain calm in stressful situations and balance customer service needs.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to learn security systems and operate body cameras.
  • Desire to learn residential buildings and grounds.

Physical Demands

  • Walk 5 miles or more during a shift.
  • Visual acuity to identify security or safety issues at night.
  • Communicate verbally and hear distress signals.
  • Possess ability to safely operate a UGA state vehicle as necessary.
  • Occasional outdoor work in hot or cold weather.
