This is a casual position, intended to meet the specific operational needs of the College. This position will work no more than 450 hours in a 12 month period. This position will serve as a floater/on-call employee to support the needs of the institution and may be assigned to the Main Campus, the Technology Center, or the Pines Opportunity Center (Morgan County Campus).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct unarmed interior and exterior patrols to ensure all locks and means of access are secure.
  • Communicate effectively with the public and staff.
  • Document all incidents occurring on campus.
  • Report crimes or suspicious persons to the authorities.
  • Perform interior and exterior patrols; vehicular patrols of campus parking lots and its environs.
  • Unlocking and locking doors; setting intrusion detection alarms.
  • Respond to calls for security assistance, including medical emergencies and other first responder related requests.
  • Monitor CCTV surveillance cameras; investigate incidents.
  • Monitor access control.
  • Prepare reports pertaining to incidents.
  • Provide customer service to visitors, staff and students about campus functions.
  • Prepare student and employee IDs and issuance of vehicle parking permits (Main Campus).
  • Provide safety escort services.
  • Annotate log book and promptly complete incident reports.
  • Open and close College facilities based on the College's operating schedule and assist in lockdowns.
  • Provide parking lot and traffic assistance as needed.
  • Perform daily mail pick-up and delivery when assigned to the Tech Center.
  • In the absence of the primary Receiver, act as back-up and receive all packages destined for Tech Center recipients.
  • Perform related duties as assigned or directed.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience: One year of security, law enforcement, emergency medical service, or related experience, or similar duties while serving in the armed forces of the United States.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Ability to maintain a high level of situational awareness; de-escalate confrontations; multi-task and communicate verbally and in writing; must be able to walk, sit, climb stairs, and lift moderate-weight packages; good hearing, eyesight, and depth perception; CPR, AED, basic first aid, and pepper spray training/experience preferred; valid driver's license.
  • Other: This is an unarmed position; incumbent will be trained and certified to carry and deploy pepper spray.
