Electrician

The Electrician repairs, maintains, and installs wiring, motors, transformers, generators, lighting, and other electrical systems.

Responsibilities include:

  • Inspecting and testing electrical lighting, signal, communication, and power circuits and equipment.
  • Isolating defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment, using suitable testing instruments.
  • Examining and testing elements of electrical systems to locate obvious faults, such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires, loose connections, and worn motor brushes.
  • Replacing faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, and other simple elements of electrical systems fixtures and appliances.
  • Renewing circuits either by isolating and cutting out defective wiring and replacing it with new wiring or by splicing ends of broken wires.
  • Replacing defective equipment parts such as gears, bushings, and bearings and other related electrical parts.
  • Estimating materials needed and recording time and materials expended on each work order.
  • Having minor supervisory duties when other tradesmen are assigned to assist in the work of the electrician.
  • Installing/re-routing telecommunication lines in offices and classrooms.
  • Installing conduit, wire, receptacles, switches, fixtures, etc. for new/remodel projects.
  • Assisting tradesmen when directed.
  • Conducting routine building inspections to assess needs relating to electrical work and maintenance.
  • Completing and/or maintaining department records relating to the position.
  • Being responsible for general maintenance in assigned buildings.
  • Performing preventive maintenance work on a wide variety of equipment in assigned buildings.
  • Conducting routine maintenance, testing, and inspections of backup power sources such as generators, batteries, and UPS.
  • Performing daily mechanical inspection rounds in assigned buildings and logging critical information.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  • Completing quarterly training assignments identified in the structured personal development plan.
  • Completing an approved craft self-assessment within 30 days of the signature date.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum five years of experience as a maintenance electrician.
  • An electrician's apprenticeship or equivalent on-the-job training.
  • Education (Preferred): High school graduate, GED, or equivalent vocational training school.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Electrician License
