Staff Electrician

Employment Status: Regular/Full time

The Staff Electrician is a key member of the electrics team, which is responsible for realizing lighting and projection designs for the theatre's 10 annual productions, including LORT B and D stages, and Theatre for Young Audiences shows. The Staff Electrician will work closely with other members of the electrics and projections department: other staff electricians, Assistant Lighting and Projections Director, and over-hire labor.

The Electrician will assist with the hanging, focusing, programming and troubleshooting of lighting and projection equipment used for each production. The Electrician will also help maintain and run shows, assist with repair, and the maintenance of equipment, as well as general clean up.

This position is covered under the collectively bargained agreement between Alliance Theatre and IATSE Local 927. Union membership is not a requirement for applying.

Work Schedule: 30-to-40-hour work week to include variable shifts aligned to the theatre schedule of Monday-Sunday 9am 11pm. All shifts will be a minimum of 4 hours.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: hanging and focusing lights; installing and maintaining projections equipment; programming and running shows, including follow spot operation; attend and participate in all technical rehearsals, crew calls, technical notes and performances as assigned; run show crew tracks; maintenance of equipment and troubleshooting; other duties as assigned by the Director of Lighting and Projections.

Skills and Abilities: basic electrical wiring skills are required including 120v standards, 240v standards, and low-voltage practices; must be familiar with DMX-controlled devices and moving lights; must demonstrate basic troubleshooting and signal flow knowledge; knowledge of LED tape protocols, including decoders, power supplies and Pixel tape; working knowledge of MSC, OSC, ArtNet, and IP based networks; minor carpentry/rigging skills is a plus; excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision; must be able to work from various heights with a multitude of lifting devices (ladders, genies, focus tracks, etc); must work well with others in the Lighting department and with other departments; must have good interpersonal skills (active listening, teamwork, responsibility/accountability, dependability, flexibility, patience & empathy, etc); must have a clear understanding and implementation of chain of command.

Experience: experience programming EOS family of consoles and knowledge of Vectorworks Spotlight and Lightwright 6; experience in a LORT theatre is preferred; experience with projection software such as Qlab5, Dataton WATCHOUT, Disguise, Isadora, Millumin, etc. is preferred; must have a valid driver's license with no violations.

Physical Demands/Work Environment: some standing, walking, bending, frequent use of hands, stooping and light lifting (at least 70 pounds) is needed; must be comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and elevated working areas (catwalks, grids, scenery, etc); the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
