Join us as an Electrician for the City of West Allis!
We are seeking a Certified Journeyman or Master Electrician who enjoys outdoor work. In this role, you will maintain, inspect, and repair electrical wiring systems and equipment. Your responsibilities include managing street lighting, lighting services in parks, playgrounds, parking lots, and public buildings, as well as installing and maintaining the city's traffic control systems.
This position requires availability for nights, weekends, overtime, and emergency response, including rotational watch duty. Candidates should demonstrate emotional intelligence, a strong work ethic, accountability, and initiative.
The job offers regular work with local travel within West Allis. The starting hourly rate ranges from $32.63 to $44.86, depending on education, experience, and certifications. Benefits include medical, dental, pension, paid time off, and a sign-on bonus up to $2,500 for qualified applicants.
Examples of Duties
- Install, modify, repair, load, and test electrical systems and components to ensure safety and functionality.
- Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot cable issues, and repair streetlight poles and luminaires.
- Maintain transformers, switches, and control cabinets, and operate primary circuit mechanisms.
- Read blueprints, diagrams, and engineering drawings for electrical planning and execution.
- Suggest procedural improvements and support planning and innovation initiatives.
- Attend work regularly, communicate effectively, and operate vehicles lawfully within jurisdiction.
Qualifications
The candidate must be available for irregular hours, possess emotional intelligence, and demonstrate a strong work ethic and accountability.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of electrical practices, safety protocols, and codes.
- Ability to install, maintain, and repair electrical systems.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints and estimating project costs.
- Skills in using hand tools and operating in diverse environments, including heights and confined spaces.
- Strong communication skills, ability to multitask, and proficiency with computers and software.
Training and Experience
High school or trade school diploma, completion of an electrical apprenticeship, and at least five years of recent paid experience, or six years of relevant experience with a diploma.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid Wisconsin Driver's License with acceptable record.
- Wisconsin CDL Class B or C with air brakes and Tanker endorsement within 12 months.
- Electrician Level I: Journeyman Certification; Level II: Master Electrician Certification.
