Job Summary
This is a contract position lasting approximately 4 months in Lawrence, KS with the possibility of a travel position after job completion. This job is also eligible for fringe benefits up to $20.80. Responsible for servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing, or installing electrical components in a commercial setting. The individual must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of themselves or others in the workplace. The description is not a complete listing of all duties that may be required.
Essential Job Duties
- Must possess the ability to plan the layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
- Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
- Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits using testing devices to ensure compatibility and safety.
- Use a variety of tools or equipment, including power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, ensuring code compliance.
- Place conduit and pipes in walls or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through conduits to complete circuits.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems or components using test equipment and hand tools.
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and equipment in accordance with local, state, and national electrical codes.
- Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
- Install and connect wiring, outlets, switches, and fixtures; test systems for functionality and safety.
- Collaborate with other tradespeople to complete projects on time and within budget.
- Ensure safety regulations are followed and maintain a clean work area.
- Pre-job and Pre-task planning; identify safety risks and communicate necessary precautions; inspect tools and equipment before use; comply with site safety rules and PPE requirements.
Required Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent apprenticeship.
- Must adhere to safety protocol and work in a drug-free environment.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the applicable trade and understanding of craft work.
- Knowledge of safety rules and regulations and client and company policy.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and align with FMM values: Quality, Teamwork, Pride, Passion, Integrity.
- Proficient in computer, text, and email skills; proficient in using power tools and electrical testing equipment.
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Experience working with high voltage and low voltage systems; strong understanding of electrical principles.
- Ability to build and install electrical systems in commercial and residential settings; reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
- Basic knowledge of frame carpentry for installation purposes.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to pass a Fit for Duty Screening.
- Work in all weather conditions (hot/cold/muddy); high noise environment.
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and construction machinery.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform tasks involving physical labor.
- Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood frameworks, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
- Frequent use of hands to grasp, lift, and handle objects; variable bending, twisting, walking, crawling, crouching, kneeling, reaching overhead, or standing for long periods.
Mental Requirements
- Maintain alertness and safe performance of essential job functions.
- Effective communication with management and supervision.
- Reading and writing comprehension for directions and safety policy; basic math calculations.
- Ability to work at varying tempos and concentrate amid distractions; strong decision-making and attention to detail.
