Job Description
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Electrical Designer to create detailed electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and associated documentation for custom industrial thermal processing equipment.
This role works closely with electrical engineers, mechanical designers, and project managers to ensure accurate, code-compliant, and manufacturable designs.
This is a technical contributor position with no supervisory or formal project management responsibilities.
Develop and revise electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layout drawings using AutoCAD Electrical or similar CAD tools.
Interpret redlines, design notes, and verbal instructions to translate design intent into accurate drawings.
Apply standard design practices and component specifications as provided by engineering leadership.
Ensure all designs comply with applicable electrical codes and industry standards (e.g., UL, CE, NFPA 79).
Create and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) for equipment builds.
Maintain organized documentation, including drawing files, revision history, and version control.
Collaborate across departments to clarify requirements and resolve design issues.
Provide support to the production floor during panel builds and equipment assembly.
Participate in design reviews and lessons-learned sessions as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Associate degree in Electrical Design, Drafting, or a related field; or equivalent hands-on experience.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in electrical drafting/design within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical or similar CAD software.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
Working knowledge of industrial electrical components including relays, VFDs, circuit breakers, and PLCs.
Understanding of UL 508A, CE, or similar industrial electrical standards.
Exposure to programmable controller (PLC) systems is a plus, though programming knowledge is not required.
Familiarity with ERP systems for BOM creation and updates.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Primarily office-based work, with occasional time spent on the production floor or customer sites.
Exposure to varying temperature environments (heated or refrigerated areas).
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
Occasional travel may be required for design validation or on-site support.
