Salary range $65,000 - $75,000 (salary based on education and experience)

Job purpose

The Human Resources Generalist plays a critical role in supporting HR operations in a unionized, chemical manufacturing environment. This role partners with leadership and employees across departments to ensure fair and consistent HR practices. The HR Generalist provides hands-on support in employee relations, contract administration, staffing, compliance, performance management, benefits, and payroll—while fostering a productive and engaged workforce.

Duties and responsibilities

Labor Relations

·Support administration of collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) and act as liaison with union representatives.

·Assist with grievance tracking, step meetings, documentation, and resolution.

·Maintain positive labor-management relationships and promote effective communication.

·Prepare documentation and support corporate HR leadership, external consultants and legal counsel during negotiations and arbitrations.

Recruitment & Onboarding

·Coordinate hourly and salaried recruitment efforts, including job postings, screenings, and interviews.

·Partner supervisors and management to identify staffing needs and fill open roles.

·Facilitate new hire orientation and ensure all employees receive required safety and compliance training.

·Make employment offers, and assure all pre-employment and pre-screening requirements are met; including, but not limited to background record checks, pre-employment physicals, drug screenings, etc.

·Enroll and monitor onboarding process through Paylocity system.

·Initiate Management of Change process as required of ISO certification.

Employee Relations & Engagement

·Act as a trusted resource for employees and supervisors regarding workplace concerns and HR policies.

·Coach supervisors on effective employee management and consistent policy enforcement.

·Assist with employee engagement, employee satisfaction efforts, and communications.

Compliance & Recordkeeping

·Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local labor laws, including PFML, ADA, OSHA, and FLSA.

·Maintain accurate personnel files and HRIS data.

·Support EEO, safety, and ISO audits as needed.

·Implementing and ensuring consistent Group regulations.

Benefits & Rewards

·Assist employees with understanding and utilizing benefits offerings.

·Track leaves of absence, process required paperwork, and communicate with third-party administrators.

·Assist employees with benefit issues.

·Partner with Broker and manage open enrollment process.

· Complete job evaluation on position to comply with Massachusetts Pay Equity Act 2018.

· Administer the company’s payroll system, working with system vendor to ensure accurate earnings, deductions and tax withholding.

· Process and audit bi-weekly payroll.

· Quarterly and yearend payroll tax auditing.

· Update and maintain HR-data in payroll and benefits.

· Prepare and analyze data; regular and ad hoc reporting as needed.

·Regular preparation of reports and analyses for Group management.

Training & Development

·Support coordination of employee training, supervisor development programs, and compliance training.

·Track training completions and update records in the HR system.

Office Administration

·All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

·Associates degree in Human Resources, Business, Industrial Relations, or related field (or equivalent experience); Bachelor’s degree preferred.

·2–5 years of HR experience. Experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting is preferred.

·Working knowledge of labor laws and experience supporting unionized environments.

·Proficient in HRIS systems (e.g., Paylocity, ADP, Ceridian, etc.) and Microsoft Office 365.

·Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
