Senior Talent Acquisition Manager @ Van Leeuwen Ice Cream

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is hiring a full-time Human Resources Manager to join our HQ team in Brooklyn, New York. This is a great opportunity for a highly experienced individual to work closely with the founding team of Van Leeuwen Ice Cream as they embark on their next stage of accelerated growth. The ideal candidate is someone who has experience with employee relations, compliance, leadership development and can thrive in a fast-paced environment (and loves ice cream!).

The HR Manager will join a team of regional HR support that facilitates all human resource processes for our retail outlets, as well as at our HQ. This role primarily focuses on employee relations and compliance across multiple states, so knowledge surrounding a diverse array of local labor laws is a plus! Above all, this role is a cultural pillar at Van Leeuwen, ensuring all employees feel seen, heard, and advocated for. A strong sense of empathy and understanding of servant leadership is a must.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees all employee relations functions including responding to employee inquiries, mediations, and managing the HR inbox.
  • Project manages solutions to complex HR issues such as changing labor laws and policy roll outs.
  • Manages disciplinary action and termination processes and documentation.
  • Manages the exit interview process and any results required by the collected feedback.
  • Manages the filing of all employee-related documentation.
  • Assists in company-wide and individual professional development initiatives, such as the tracking of individual development plans and managerial interventions.
  • Assists with the preparation and tracking of the performance review process.
  • Assists in the administrative processes necessary for new store openings.
  • Manages required HR training modules related to compliance and HR processes.
  • Ensures compliance for all regional laws and regulations.
  • Oversees the processing of DOL correspondence such as unemployment claims and verification letters.
  • Files all workers compensation claims and performs regular follow up on claims when needed.
  • Assists in the management of company culture events such as team building activities and offsites.
  • Audits internal HR systems (payroll, FWW tracking, food handlers tracking) periodically to ensure compliance standards are met.
  • Maintains flexibility to assist with HR, talent acquisition, and training tasks as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred in HR or an HR-related field
  • 3-5+ years of experience in HR or an HR-related function
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with project management a plus
  • Experience with multi-state employment laws including fair work week laws preferred
  • Can maintain flexible hours when necessary to tackle high-priority HR items that may fall outside of regular office hours
  • Travels to their assigned retail markets when necessary (<10%)
  • Ability to multitask

$85,000 - $100,000 annual compensation depending on experience, paid weekly
