Provide all aspects of Human Resources support for manufacturing plant operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist HR Manager with all necessary projects and issues
- Prepare reports for Accounting, Quality, HR, and Corporate HR/Payroll
- Track & report all union dues to Corporate HR/Payroll and the union office
- Maintain employee deductions and tax exemptions in the payroll system
- Handle court orders relating to child support, wage garnishments and tax levy’s
- Provide reports to the courts, law firms, and employees as required
- Maintain and create time cards/badges and access cards
- Oversee the timekeeping system
- Maintain record of safety shoes, eye exams, safety glasses, and tool reimbursements for the plant
- Manage hourly uniforms program and related deductions
- Compiles payroll data such as hours worked, holiday pays, and special pays from time records
- Research problems with payroll checks, deductions, & garnishments
- Review exceptions reports & make corrections.
- Understand contract language in regards to pay rates and change rates in system as employees move to new bid positions
- Change pay rates on anniversary and contract dates per contract language
- Distribute written communication to employees relative to payroll & HR
- Send required payroll/employment information relating to unemployment to necessary parties
- Review payroll and call off log and assign points in accordance with Attendance Policy
- Conduct weekly audits of pay rates and hours to ensure accuracy
- Participates in Management/Union Meetings and Contract Negotiations.
- Directly responsible for tracking employee training in an electronic database (inc. training update notification).
- Meet/exceed budget targets for Headcount, Overtime, and Safety performance metrics.
- Directs and coordinates the recruitment, selection, and promotion process of applicants to meet hourly and salaried manpower requirements.
- Schedule Employee Involvement monthly meetings (Round table: Hourly Personnel/Plant Manager).
- Administers all company benefit plans and programs.
- Manages paperwork and required communication with employees on Leaves of Absence, including leaves covered by the Family and Medical Leave Act and those eligible for Short Term Disability coverage.
- Keeps record of Insurance coverage, Pension Plan & Personnel Transactions, such as New Hires, Promotions, Transfers, Performance Reviews and Terminations
- Represents Company at Personnel related hearings and investigations (inc. Counseling and Terminations).
- Maintains hourly employee data in Human Resources Information System.
- Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting Human Resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
- Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
- Administers Attendance and Vacation for both Hourly and Salary.
- Manage employee engagement projects throughout the year for morale.
- Attend Daily Production Meeting, weekly manning meeting, CI report out meeting and managers meeting, monthly BOS and Town Hall.
- Participate in all plant wide communications.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization to ensure issues are addressed and resolved in a timely manner.
- Assist in annual budgeting.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education / Experience:
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Human Resources Management or related field from four-year college or university.
- Must have broad, basic understanding of Federal and State employment laws.
- Experience in a Union environment (a plus).
- Experience dealing with safety issues in a manufacturing setting is preferred.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Human Resource Certification preferred (PHR/SHRM).
Language Ability:
- Ability to write reports and correspondence and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees is required
Math Ability:
- Basic math skills are required
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to solve practical problems in situations where only limited standardization exists is required
Computer Skills:
- Proficient in MS Office software (inc. Powerpoint, Word, and Excel) and Outlook.
- Proficient in HRIS.
- Knowledge of payroll systems (a plus).
