Description

Barista responsibilities include educating customers on our menu, making recommendations based on the customer's preferences, taking orders, up-selling special items, and keeping the facility clean and stocked. To be successful in this role, a barista should have customer service skills, knowledge of brewing methods and specialty drinks, and a motivation to keep the store clean and presentable. Experience is preferred but not required.

Ultimately, the barista ensures an excellent experience for our guests.

Duties When Working a Shift:

First Priority - Customers:

  1. Immediately greet customers as they arrive.
  2. Engage customers before taking orders (e.g., “How are you today?”).
  3. Educate customers on menu items and answer questions.
  4. Discern customer's preferences and make recommendations, potentially up-selling.
  5. Take orders, paying attention to details such as preferences for roast, dairy, and syrup.
  6. Receive and process payments (cash and credit cards).
  7. Serve prepared food, like cookies, pastries, and muffins.
  8. Prepare and serve beverages following recipes.

Second Priority - Between Customers:

  1. Keep the bar area and equipment clean.
  2. Brew drip coffee as needed.
  3. Maintain an empty dirty dish bin.
  4. Wash and put away dishes in the kitchen.
  5. Fill the drinking water container, mason cup tray, and buffet items.
  6. Maintain a clean dining area, sanitizing tables and chairs, and sweeping crumbs off the floor.
  7. Maintain stock of syrups, bar fridge, pastries, bagged coffee, and merchandise.
  8. Complete tasks on the shift checklist, working ahead to ensure completion before the shift ends.
  9. Complete daily tasks as possible, and finish before the end of the day.
  10. If time permits, complete items on the next shift's checklist.
  11. If all above are complete, ask your manager for additional tasks.
  12. Report any equipment issues or maintenance needs.
  13. Comply with health and safety regulations.
