BARISTA
Reports to Restaurant Manager; position is non-exempt


THE ROLE
The Barista reports to Food + Beverage Leadership and works in a team environment with other F+B professionals, including bartenders, servers, dishwashers, cooks, and chefs. It is essential that the person in this position possesses a background and knowledge in service techniques and has a natural ability to manage time. The Barista is responsible for creating memorable guest experiences, not only being an order-taker. They are responsible for the timely and friendly delivery of food and drinks, and for exercising intuitive service to create memorable experiences. In-depth menu knowledge is necessary to ensure safe service to guests with allergies and restrictions. Ongoing beverage tasting and training will allow the Barista to expand their knowledge of coffee drinks and techniques. The position is intended to cover morning and early afternoon hours of operation.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Uphold and model the company’s principles of People, Place, and Character, driving collaboration, intuition, and translocal hospitality
  • Own all aspects of a guest’s Café experience from beginning to end by extending a friendly greeting in an inviting environment, ensuring proper steps of service to create exceptional guest experiences; executing requests in a friendly and timely manner, ensuring satisfaction throughout and adjusting as necessary
  • Participate in daily lineups and staff meetings to develop ideas and objectives with the service team while providing constructive feedback and strategizing to improve
  • Be accountable for working knowledge of the menus, ingredients, and unavailability for the day; serve alcohol safely, responsibly, and legally; and accurately handle monetary transactions during your shift
  • Share extensive knowledge of coffee with guests, using product knowledge to enhance their experience and offer relevant additions
  • Ensure your workstation is clean and organized, with respect for guests, peers, and equipment
  • Demonstrate urgency for guest requests
  • Understand basic coffee and beverage terms and strive to learn more through continuous study; use menu knowledge to create exceptional dining experiences
  • Observe physical facilities and relay challenges to leadership for corrections; communicate promptly with F+B and Culinary teams to ensure timely food delivery
  • Assist in other F+B Department areas as needed


WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Passion for community, love of restaurants, and guest service
  • Minimum one (1) year experience as a Barista in a café or coffee shop
  • Valid WA Food Worker Card and Alcohol Server Training Permit
  • Ability to meet local age requirements for alcohol service
  • Flexible schedule including mornings, weekends, and holidays
  • Fluency in English, verbal and written
  • Ability to stand and walk for most of a shift, negotiating varied floor surfaces
  • Fine motor skills for pouring, decorating, and setting up
  • Ability to lift and carry 30 lbs., and handle hot fluids and candles safely
