Description

Position Summary

The Dental Assistant will work closely with and under the supervision of dentists. Dental Assistants have a wide variety of responsibilities in their larger role of supporting the dentist and dental care delivery. Basic roles involve interaction with patients and dental clinic staff to facilitate all aspects of the patient’s visit. The Dental Assistant will work under the supervision of the Dental, Clinical, and Management Staff.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assist dental professionals in dental treatments and procedures as part of core duties.
  • Conduct patient entry and exit interviews to ensure all consent forms and documentation is complete as well as ensures patient understanding of treatment plans.
  • Interviews and exits patients, complete appropriate medical agency and consent forms, and ensures patient understanding.
  • Provide patient with education of proper oral hygiene, plaque control, and provide post-care instructions.
  • Apply non-caustic and non-aerosol agents to patient as directed by Dentist.
  • Apply topical fluoride.
  • Checks chart for completeness, errors, signatures and appropriate assembly.
  • Prepare exam rooms and patients for treatments and procedures.
  • Take patient vitals, dental impressions, and x-ray/ imaging.
  • Prepare and sterilize dental equipment for Dentist access, suctioning, and passing instruments (4 handed dentistry).
  • Counsel individuals who need information concerning oral hygiene and other NECC programs and services.
  • General back office duties such as pouring, trimming, and polishing removable appliances.
  • Clean, stock and maintain an orderly exam room, supply room, sterilization area, lab and general working area.
  • Provide assistance with extra oral care duties as specified by supervising licensed Dentist.
  • Document dental care services performed in patient records.
  • Perform front office duties, answering phones, scheduling, chart retrieval, filing, processing test results, greeting, and processing of patients, as needed.
  • Strict adherence to the policy and procedure manual to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain positive working relationship with all staff.
  • Other duties as assigned by Dental supervisor.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Microsoft Office/Word/Excel/Outlook
  • Excellent Communication Skills
  • Excellent Customer Service Skills
  • Bi-lingual Spanish/English (preferred)
  • Ability to work as a team player and work independently
  • Reliable transportation
  • Must be able to travel from facility to facility
  • This position requires 10 % travel outside the local area.

Required Education/Experience And/or Licensure/Certification

  • Dental Assistant Certificate, Certified Dental Assistant, or higher.
  • Dental Assistant certification must be completed from a certified Dental Assistant program
  • High School Diploma and/or GED equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of Dentrix and Digital x-rays, preferred
  • Commitment to goals and philosophy of Northeast Community Clinic
  • Current CPR and/or BLS Certification
  • Valid State Identification

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

  • OSHA Category 1 Involves exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
  • The work is majority of the time non-sedentary in nature.
  • The employee is regularly required to communicate, frequently required to use repetitive motions, move, remain stationary, regularly push, pull and lift up to 20 pounds and occasionally push, pull and lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office/clinic setting (in some cases both settings) and to use standard office/clinic equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, read printed materials and use a computer, and communicate in person and over the telephone.
