POSITION SUMMARY:
- Maintain district vehicles operating in a safe and economically acceptable manner to contribute to the educational process of students
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Possess an acceptable driving record
- Pass the Texas Department of Public Safety physical including drug and alcohol screening
- Possess an acceptable criminal history check
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Class A or B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with "P" and "S" endorsements
- Obtain school bus certification
- Maintain a current DOT physical
- ASE certifications, TASBT certification (desired)
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively to customers in small groups
- Ability to add/subtract two digit numbers and multiply/divide with 10's and 100's
- Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
- Five years experience as a diesel mechanic (desired)
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on district vehicles
- Complete tire repairs
- Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner
- Diagnose and make mechanical repairs on district vehicles
- Diagnose and repair electrical problems
- Attend professional development as requested by the Fleet Manager
- Repair/rebuild brakes
- Perform tune-ups
- Maintain tool chest provided by the district
- Utilize the Automated Fleet Management System
- Obtain Annual State Inspection License (required within 90 days of employment)
- Perform troubleshooting and related repairs on district vehicles
- Maintain the ability to diagnose, repair, rebuild and make necessary adjustments on all vehicle systems
- Maintain a thorough knowledge and ability to repair components on all systems, including the ability to operate shop equipment
- Substitute as a Bus Driver or Monitor as needed
- Texas Railroad Commission certification (required within 180 days of employment)
- Other duties assigned by Shop Supervisor/Fleet Manager or Director of Transportation
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arm. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. - While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical buses and equipment. The employee may frequently work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, gases fumes, and sprays.
