Overview

Superior Ambulance Service is the largest independent, locally owned and operated Emergency Medical Service provider serving Northern Illinois, Northwest Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. We provide wheelchair transportation, Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support, Critical Care Ground Transportation, and Critical Care Rotary Air Transportation. Under the direction of the Lead Mechanic, the Mechanic is responsible for the general maintenance and repair of all Superior Ambulance vehicles. The mechanic will work in a fast-paced, high-volume private fleet that includes various makes and models.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections, diagnosis, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
  • Conduct routine maintenance to improve vehicle functionality and longevity.
  • Complete documentation related to repairs, parts usage, and repair times.
  • Perform other related maintenance work.
  • Communicate needed repairs or tasks to the manager.
  • Maintain a safe work station.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Willing to work on gas and diesel engines as needed.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical components including switches, relays, and circuits.
  • Provide own tools.
  • Proficient in vehicle diagnosis and repair.
  • Emergency lighting and siren experience is welcome.
  • Certificates of accomplishment are valuable.
  • Motivated, self-starter and able to work independently.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other employees.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions in English.
  • Must be able to routinely lift and carry items up to 75 lbs and reach overhead.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly in verbal contact with others. The role involves indoor and outdoor work, exposure to environmental elements, automotive fluids and cleaning chemicals.

Salary Range: USD $22.00 - USD $35.00 /Hr. Rates offered based on years of experience.
