Job Description

Johnson County Wastewater (JCW) handles the collection, transportation, and treatment of wastewater to protect public health and the environment. The Line Cleaning and Inspection Crew Member and Trainee positions are part of a career progression program with opportunities for advancement and skill development. Competitive wages and benefits are also offered.

Initial review of applications begins on August 22, 2025.

  • Under supervision, performs routine tasks in wastewater system cleaning and inspection, assists with manual labor tasks such as pulling hoses, setting up traffic control, removing debris, and cleaning equipment using high-pressure hoses and tools.
  • Operates light-duty equipment following safety protocols, including PPE and confined space procedures.

Job Requirements

Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent, valid driver's license with acceptable record. This is a temporary trainee position with a maximum of three months employment. Trainees must pass written exams within four months and obtain a Class B CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements within six months to continue employment.

Background checks are required for all positions.

Preferred: One year of experience with light to heavy equipment.

Physical and Environmental Conditions

Includes standing, walking, exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes, heights, loud noises, lifting (up to 80 lbs), exposure to raw sewage, on-call work, safety protocols, weather conditions, confined spaces, and physical exertion such as climbing and bending. Uniform and PPE are required.
