About the Role
As a Social Worker in the Children in Care Team, you will be responsible for managing a caseload of children who are in care, ensuring their safety, stability, and wellbeing. You will work with children and young people, their families, foster carers, and partner agencies to ensure that each child’s needs are assessed and addressed through personalised care plans. Your work will be essential in helping children reach their full potential, offering them the chance to grow in a supportive and stable environment.
This is a highly rewarding role where you will play a key part in ensuring that children in care are protected, cared for, and supported through key transitions in their lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing a varied caseload of children in care, ensuring all statutory duties are met
- Conducting thorough assessments of the needs and circumstances of children and young people
- Developing and implementing personalised care plans in consultation with the child, their family, and other professionals
- Regularly reviewing care plans, placements, and progress, making necessary adjustments to ensure the child’s needs are met
- Ensuring effective communication and collaboration with partner agencies, including health, education, and legal services
- Supporting children and young people through significant life events, transitions, and decisions
- Promoting the welfare and safety of children, advocating for their needs, and ensuring their voices are heard in decision-making processes
- Preparing high-quality reports for court proceedings, care reviews, and other statutory meetings
- Maintaining up-to-date case records and ensuring compliance with all legislative and procedural requirements
- Engaging with families and carers, offering support and guidance to help them provide a stable and nurturing environment for the children
Requirements
- Qualifications: A recognised Social Work degree (e.g., BA/MA in Social Work, DipSW, or equivalent)
- Registration: Current registration with Social Work England
- Experience: Previous experience working within children’s services, ideally with children in care or child protection
- Knowledge: A strong understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and best practice guidelines in relation to children in care, child protection, and safeguarding
- Skills: Excellent communication, assessment, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage a complex caseload
- Other: A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes are desirable
