The Position
The purpose of this classification is to implement, and maintain Information Technology solutions for the City of Albany and Dougherty County governments.
Duties
Assists staff and users to identify and solve hardware, software, communications, and operating procedure problems by telephone or in person.
Analyzes technical requirements of customer desiring to utilize hardware, software, and communication equipment to perform installation and maintenance duties.
Identifies areas of operation which need upgraded hardware, software, or communications equipment.
Enters commands, observes system functioning, reviews and analyzes computer printouts and performance indications to verify correct operations and detect errors.
Installs, adjusts, calibrates, and performs minor repairs to hardware, software, and communication equipment, using hand tools and technical documents, following design or installation specifications.
Tests faulty equipment, using test equipment and applying knowledge of functional operation of computer, network, and communication systems, to diagnose malfunction.
Inspects components of equipment for defects and for accuracy of assembly and installation; notifies supervisor of errors or equipment stoppage; operates equipment to demonstrate use of equipment and to analyze malfunctions.
References technical manuals and on-line help; attends seminars and training schools as needed; maintains awareness of new hardware, software, and techniques.
Maintains effective communication with vendors regarding hardware, software, and communication equipment.
Refers major hardware, software, and communications equipment problems or defective products to vendors or technicians for service.
Maintains record of daily data communication transactions, problems and remedial action taken, and installation activities.
Ascends poles to install or maintain auxiliary equipment and appliances according to diagrams.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Performs on-call, and after hours support duties on a rotating basis.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree in Information Systems or closely related field preferred; additionally, two (2) years previous experience and/or training that includes PC based programming and computer operations required; Bachelor's degree and additional Certifications and training will be required and ongoing; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
