VALOR - PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST

A Peer Support Specialist will have personal lived experience and identify with the supportive service population. The position requires certification as a Peer Support Specialist coupled with lived experiences as a person engaged with mental health services, involvement in the criminal justice system and/or being in recovery from substance use. This position is part of a multi-disciplinary team and provides supportive services, advocacy, and peer coaching. As part of our team, you will assist individuals throughout their treatment process, helping them gain skills, access resources, and regain the confidence to succeed in society. This is a full-time staff position within a 24/7 program and may require night and weekend coverage for the safety and well-being of all clients residing in the facility. Shifts may change to meet the requirements of daily operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads peer groups and works with other Peer Support Specialists in both the group and one-on-one settings with individuals who use behavioral health services to produce recovery framing and outreach in a community setting.
  • Serves as a role model and mentor for others.
  • Provides direct peer coaching based on your own lived experiences to develop authentic and supportive peer-to-peer relationships.
  • Provides education to and advocacy for clients.
  • Develops peer services and recovery goals and keeps the treatment team informed about the individual’s strengths and obstacles in relation to their recovery goals.
  • Complies with and completes all documentation requirements related to the peer program in a timely basis.
  • Helps clients with self-determined goal setting
  • Documents all activities in an electronic health record with moderate computer proficiency
  • Assists in arranging a providing transportation for community appointments and services.
  • Reports safety concerns to the appropriate staff
  • Develops and maintains a resource directory for use by clients.
  • Promotes and demonstrates the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Embrave.
  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with all departments, the management team, regulatory agencies and community partners.
  • Embraces cultural diversity amongst ourselves and our community.
  • Responsible for the human, financial, and material resources as well as data and information entrusted to us.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None

EDUCATION/ WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certifications as a Peer Support Specialist with lived experiences engaging with individuals is required. Must have completed a nationally recognized (or state equivalent) Peer Support Specialist certification matching the Colorado state requirement of at least 60 hours of Peer coursework.
