Overview
Data Center Civil Engineer role at Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We keep the cloud running by supporting all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to innovation. Youll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. Responsibilities
- Manage our external civil design consultants through the Data Center design and construction process.
- Review designs for site layout, grading, power substations, storm water, utilities, and pavement.
- Coordinate with internal and external architectural, structural, and MEP design engineers.
- Develop preliminary site layout concepts using Civil 3D, incorporating grading, utilities, and circulation patterns while maintaining flexibility for design evolution.
- Effectively communicate design standards to internal and external project partners.
- Communicate conceptual designs and create/maintain project documentation before, during, and after construction.
- Develop and maintain design standards, design prototypes, and template specifications related to site design for Data Centers and supporting infrastructure.
- Create, review, and release design RFPs for various projects, including data centers and special program facilities.
- Manage multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously and manage TPM expectations regarding project-specific cost and schedules variables.
- Lead initiatives aimed at improving cost, quality, schedule, and consistency.
- Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with authorities having jurisdiction.
Basic Qualifications
- Professional Engineering License, or plan for achieving licensure within 12 months of start date.
- 7+ years of professional experience in commercial, warehouse, and/or industrial site-civil design.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of civil design experience for Data Centers or Mission Critical facilities, with working knowledge of land use and land development practices.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate the design and constructability of site design by third-party consultants.
- Proficiency in understanding and applying building codes, local regulations, and standards.
- Knowledge of mission critical equipment and systems, design processes, pre-construction requirements, and the construction process.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam, and MS Office Suite.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
