As a Data Center Civil Engineer at AWS, you will lead civil engineering designs for Amazon Data Centers. You will be part of a highly creative design team tasked with solving problems and challenging the status quo. You will provide technical design guidance, vendor oversight, solve large-scale implementation issues, and build a strong understanding of site design and program requirements.

This role sits within the Americas Design Engineering team responsible for the design and operation of critical Data Center facilities across North and South America. Key responsibilities
  • Manage external civil design consultants through the Data Center design and construction process.
  • Review designs for site layout, grading, power substations, storm water, utilities, and pavement.
  • Coordinate with internal and external architectural, structural, and MEP design engineers.
  • Develop preliminary site layout concepts using Civil 3D, incorporating grading, utilities, and circulation patterns while maintaining design evolution flexibility.
  • Effectively communicate design standards to internal and external project partners.
  • Communicate conceptual designs and create/maintain project documentation before, during, and after construction.
  • Develop and maintain design standards, design prototypes, and template specifications related to site design for Data Centers and supporting infrastructure.
  • Create, review, and release design RFPs for various projects, including DCs and special program facilities.
  • Manage multiple fast-paced projects and coordinate with internal TPMs on cost and schedule variables.
  • Lead initiatives to improve cost, quality, schedule, and consistency.
  • Travel for site assessments, design meetings, construction reviews, and interfacing with authorities having jurisdiction.
Basic Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering License, or plan to achieve licensure within 12 months of start date.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in commercial, warehouse, and/or industrial site-civil design.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years experience in civil design for Data Centers or Mission Critical facilities with knowledge of land use and land development practices.
  • Ability to evaluate design and constructability of site design by third-party consultants.
  • Proficiency in building codes, local regulations, and standards.
  • Knowledge of mission critical equipment and systems, design process, pre-construction requirements and construction process.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam, and MS Office.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,100/year to $185,000/year, depending on location and experience.
