ERP Deputy Project Manager Overview:
The Project Management Office (PMO) at an East Tennessee Department of Energy facility seeks a Deputy Project Manager to support the planning, execution, monitoring, controlling, and closeout of the ERP Project which will upgrade the current SAP ECC environment to SAP S/4HANA. Major Duties/Responsibilities:
The position will report to the PMO. It directly supports the existing ERP Project Manager and requires interaction with the Chief Information Officer (CIO)/Information Technology Services Division (ITSD), Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and various organizational levels within business services, IT, and Research divisions, including section heads, Group and Team Leaders, Enterprise Architects, vendors, principal investigators, R&D staff, and others. The goal is for the Deputy Project Manager to gain experience on the S/4HANA upgrade to lead future business system upgrades as a Project Manager. Develops and manages Project Management Plans (PMP), Configuration Management Plans, work breakdown structures, project tasking, and sequencing for project schedules. Manages and directs complex matrixed project teams, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, budget, and quality standards. Executes communication plans, summarizes project status, and interfaces with project workstream/task leads, sponsors, Service Portfolio Managers (SPM), ITSD leadership, and resources. Identifies, diagnoses, and consults on project risks, with strategies for mitigation. Assesses project risks/issues, implements corrective actions, and manages baseline changes as necessary. Acts as an advocate for project management by providing guidance, recommendations, and assistance to staff regarding PM best practices. Prepares and presents reports and presentations, offering recommendations and findings related to projects. Aligns behaviors and priorities with ORNLs core values: Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service. Promotes equity and accessibility by fostering a respectful workplace. Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in project management, computer science, business management, information systems, or related fields. At least 5 years of project management experience, including 2 years in a lead role, with knowledge of IT hardware, software, and systems. Practical experience in IT project work, especially application development and major infrastructure/technology deployments and upgrades. Knowledge of modern software development lifecycle processes such as Agile. Understanding of PMI/PMBOK Process Groups and Knowledge Areas, with hands-on experience in integration, scope, time, cost, communication, risk, and stakeholder management. Experience with project planning and management tools, including scope organization, defining deliverables, detailed scheduling, cost estimation, resource loading, budgeting, reporting, change control, and lessons learned. Experience with SAP ERP (SAP ECC, SAP S/4HANA) supporting business functions like Supply Chain Management, Procure-to-Pay, Order to Cash, MM, and WMS. An advanced degree in related disciplines is preferred. Certifications such as PMP, CSM, PMI-ACP, or equivalent are desirable. Experience with Agile and SDLC methodologies. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, capable of working with diverse teams and stakeholders. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance.
