Direct message the job poster from ZWORLD GIS The GIS Technician performs standard entry-level paraprofessional work compiling, verifying, maintaining, and inputting information into multiple databases; utilizes Geographic Information System (GIS) software and hardware to digitize and enter data. Position performs entry-level Information Technology (IT) technical work supporting desktop, legacy systems, databases, and GIS functions. The GIS Technician also generates schematics, maps, and graphic presentations to support company and/or client operations and applications. Position performs related duties as required. __________________________________________________________________________ DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS The main responsibilities for the GIS Technician involve collecting, translating, and maintaining data within multiple databases. A GIS Technician may perform basic geographic analysis and map production under well-established guidelines with ongoing review. The GIS Technician works closely with the GIS Analyst and can assist in handling more complex data, employing multiple analysis techniques to generate geospatial data and products. Additionally, the GIS Technician interacts with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and meet expectations. The role requires learning, applying, and maintaining proficiency in various hardware and software used by the company, as well as gaining knowledge about the products and services offered. ___________________________________________________________________________ ESSENTIAL DUTIES Digitizes information and creates, maintains, updates, queries, and views GIS data to facilitate access and retrieval for statistical analysis and accurate map, plat, and schematic creation, using methodologies such as trace digitizing, coordinate geometry (COGO), and graphic input from various sources. Creates accurate grid references using appropriate GIS software, coordinate geometry, and graphics to match information and/or design drawings, legal surveys, maps, and addresses for infrastructure mapping updates. Produces cartographic maps, graphics, diagrams, illustrations, imagery, and reports in both hard copy and digital formats for internal and client use. Interprets and prepares data such as GPS field data, record drawings, legal descriptions, address data, and regional street networks for analysis and map/database updates. Prepares and maintains metadata for all spatial data layers and databases. Converts hardcopy engineering drawings into electronic formats. Follows established quality assurance/quality control procedures to ensure GIS data accuracy, including data entry, error reconciliation, validation, and attribute assignment. Assists and provides specific processed spatial data, reports, maps, and charts to interested parties. Resolves discrepancies between field and office mapping, possibly utilizing GPS or mobile GIS systems for data collection or verification. Creates and updates various map types using planimetric and thematic mapping techniques, including aerial and terrain data, and maintains map collections. Uses vector or grid overlay techniques to generate new GIS layers from existing data. Performs field data collection and supports large-scale GPS data capture projects, which may require business travel. Supports company clients/users with GIS questions or related needs. Maintains geospatial data structure within the company's GIS Spatial Directory as assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned. Seniority level
