Overview The Managing Director, Business Development, leads the firm’s business development strategy and execution. The MD is responsible for overall strategy, managing the firm’s referral pipeline, optimizing BD processes, and positioning the firm as a trusted advisor to business owners and executives exploring M&A. This is a senior-level, client-facing role requiring hands-on M&A BD experience and a strategic, structured approach to growth. The ideal candidate is located in Central Florida but can be remote/hybrid in another geography but will require more travel as outlined in the work arrangements below.

Align employs individuals in various states and offers all employees hybrid (primarily remote/virtual) work. This specific hybrid position includes remote work each week and travel based on team and operational needs. This role will travel to other geographies to meet with partners and prospective clients, as well as attend industry and networking events, regularly. All Align employees must have reliable transportation and may be expected to travel as part of their roles, with frequency depending on role-specific requirements. Position Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Execution Shape and execute the overarching business development strategy, inclusive of channels, partnerships, and direct market engagement, aligned with the firm\'s growth objectives. Lead the identification, evaluation, and pursuit of high-impact partnerships and business opportunities that support long-term strategic priorities. Channel & Alliances Strategy Working with the VP, Strategic Alliances and Partnerships, develop and drive the firm’s channel and alliances strategy, integrating partner ecosystem dynamics to expand market access and enhance go-to-market capabilities. Leverage deep understanding of partner networks and sector-specific expertise to uncover synergy opportunities, create joint value propositions, and optimize referral pipelines. Partner Relationship Management Personally cultivate and manage strategic partnerships, owning high-value relationships and driving co-sourced opportunities from introduction to close. Ensure high-quality referrals and opportunity flow through active engagement with partners and continuous reinforcement of the firm’s value proposition. Team Leadership & Field Execution Lead a team of Business Development and Partnership Executives, serving as the field-facing leader responsible for team development, strategic alignment, and execution across all channel activities. Provide coaching, performance management, and operational oversight to drive consistent results and meet or exceed team sales targets. Own responsibility for meeting individual and team revenue targets through closed engagements, ensuring alignment with the firm’s ideal customer profile. Oversee channel pipeline integrity in DealCloud, driving disciplined reporting, forecasting accuracy, and full visibility into all referred and sourced opportunities. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner closely with internal deal teams to ensure seamless handoff and execution of qualified opportunities, maintaining a high standard of client service. Work with Marketing to design and execute partner engagement campaigns, events, and co-branded initiatives that enhance brand visibility and referral generation. Share market intelligence and partner insights with internal stakeholders to inform broader strategy and enable organizational agility. Market Development & Thought Leadership Promote the firm’s brand, thought leadership, and service capabilities within key partner ecosystems and market segments to deepen trust and accelerate business development momentum. Actively participate in strategic partner meetings, pitch sessions, and events, serving as an executive ambassador and BD leader in the market. Operational Excellence Ensure channel strategy execution is data-driven, goal-oriented, and aligned with firm KPIs through rigorous performance tracking and leadership accountability. Support internal initiatives as needed, contributing to the firm\'s culture of collaboration, innovation, and growth. Position Requirements Required: Bachelor’s Degree and substantially responsible experience in business development Experience operating in sellside investment banking, sellside M&A advisory firm, or lower-middle-market Private Equity organizations. Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor high-performing team with a focus on execution and accountability Track record of sourcing and closing transactions Experience with CRM systems (DealCloud preferred but not required). Preferred: MBA preferred but not required. Familiarity with lower middle market deal dynamics. Compensation We offer a competitive compensation package that includes a strong base salary, along with performance-based incentives. Business Development team members are eligible for a fixed bonus ("spiff") for each signed engagement they directly source, as well as a percentage of closed transaction fees on deals they originate. This structure is designed to reward both consistent effort and successful deal generation, aligning individual contributions with the firm’s overall growth. From a physical standpoint, the employee may frequently remain stationary, move/walk, reach, position, and occasionally ascend/descend stairs and/or lift objects less than 15 pounds. The employee will also frequently be required to exercise discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, information comprehension, problem-solving and decision-making.
