Description This is a 100% on site position

This position is responsible for County network operations including Local and Wide Area Networks and Telecommunications infrastructure. The position plans, directs, and coordinates the design, installation, and connectivity of network systems to ensure the stable operation of the County's communications needs. This includes developing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, load balancing, and optimizing all new and existing data, software, and communication links. Provides project management, designs, implements, installs, configures, maintains, monitors, & troubleshoots LAN/WAN networks (Cisco), wireless networks, security systems (firewalls, remote access),and campus cabling in a secure environment 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the County enterprise. Essential Functions

Installs, configures and maintains the County network. Builds networks and maintains external and internal access to web presence, administers the networks. Reviews, plans, and evaluates network systems. Supports, monitors, tests, and troubleshoots hardware and software problems pertaining to LAN/WAN. Recommends and schedules repairs. Provides end users support for all LAN- based applications. Troubleshoots network systems and recommends improvements to network. Provides documentation/project tracking and management reporting. Provides tactical and strategic input on overall network planning and related projects. Analyzes information security systems/applications and recommends, develops and deploys security measures to protect information against unauthorized access, modification or data loss. Troubleshoots network access problems and implements network security policies and procedures. Works with upper management to determine acceptable level of risk for enterprise computing platforms. Analyzes WAN functions of the County. Works to develop, improve, maintain, and implement the WAN. Installs, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains WAN equipment. Provides reports, completes requests for new service, determines methodology for installing new services, determines appropriateness of infrastructure refreshes or modifications, test links, coordinates the installation of communication circuits, and facility cabling of copper and fiber infrastructure. Provides project management support for network related projects to include design, project tracking and project reporting. Develops, configures, maintains, supports, load balances, and optimizes all new and existing data, software, and communication links. Provides project management, designs, implements, installs, configures, maintains, monitors, and troubleshoots LAN/WAN networks (CISCO and other), wireless networks, security systems (firewalls, remote access) and facility cabling in a secure environment 24/7 for the County Enterprise. Able to work with networking systems other than Cisco. When unusual situations occur and the County Administrator activates the Emergency operation center, may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery. Performs other assigned duties. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of IP networking including routing, switching, load balancing, traffic optimization, performance monitoring, Cisco IOS, BGP, EIGRP, Frame Relay, ACL's, HSRP, TCP/IP, SNMP, TFTP, FTP, SFTP, SSH, Spanning-Tree, NTP, TACACS, VPN, VLAN trunking, IP Subnetting and MLPPP. Knowledge and understanding of QoS, IPSec tunnels, VPC, Nexus NX-OS, VRF's, Firewalls, Blade Enclosure Networking, Cisco WAAS (or other WAN optimization systems), Cisco ACE (or other load balancing systems and Wireless solutions). Knowledge of telephony including PBX and VoIP. Skill in troubleshooting problems and analyzing for solutions. Skill in capturing and analyzing traffic using packet capturing tools. Skill in identifying and remedying weaknesses in the environment. Skill in prioritizing and organizing work. Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing. Skill in the use of computers and software applications related to the essential functions of the job. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other personnel and the public. Ability to complete projects on time including the necessary documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees/management. Education, Experience and Training

Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or related field. Three (3) years of relevant prior working experience. Experience in Cisco and other network platforms for a small to medium Data Center environment, multi-location WAN design and support, converged data networks, and wireless networks and security required. Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience. Valid State of Virginia Driver's License with a driving record that meets HR Policy requirements.

Other Necessary Requirements

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is light work, which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Tasks may require the ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods of time. Additionally, the following physical abilities may be required: climbing, bending, reaching, handling, and grasping.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a relatively safe, and secure work environment.
